The ULCCs are going to pull pilots straight out of ERAU, UND and Purdue. They use to go fly CRJs after graduation and now they will fly A320s.

The pilot pipeline is there, like it or not

Also seems like quicker progression at AA due to retirements.

personally I would put some weight in the decision to the financial strength of the carrier I was going to. They have to maintain the ability to pay current and any future contractual gains to you going forward.

You answered your own question when you sent out your apps.

No point in staying after that.

Well, there is a thing called pattern bargaining that's helped all segments of the industry. And don't forget how much the legacies had to come down during the bankruptcy era making F9, FedEx, UPS, and SW the top paying jobs, FOR YEARS. Which takes me to....

Things change, cycles happen, etc etc.....

Thank god someplace like Frontier hired furloughed UAL pilots post 9/11. You know, security and all that.....

Point is, you NEVER KNOW if the right choice was made till you're setting the parking brake for the last time in your career and walking off the plane.

"some bankrupt airlines list"

United - 2002
US Airways - 2004
Northwest - 2005
Delta - 2005
Frontier - 2008
American - 2011

the combined pressures of 9-11-2001 and the financial crisis/recession of 2007-2009 probably did the later guys in

to be clear, ALL Big-3 players filed bankruptcy, in the years post 9-11

That and $5 a gallon gas. ULCC are built to withstand that a bit better now.
