Default Airline Apps question

For those of you who have been called to the big leagues, did you fill in “N/A” for questions that did not apply (like the “if yes, please explain” boxes), or did you just leave them blank? Asking because I am getting conflicting information from people regarding this. Thanks!

The general rule is to “never leave a box empty”.

N/A for every box that was empty. Make sure all of your “N/A”s are uniform as well.

"Not Applicable" is more bytes. Computers and interns are scoring these things, not pilots. I know a check airman who was hired at Delta when he was a new hire FO at his first regional. I asked him how he got to be a check airman so shortly and while still a reserve FO. He said that back in his 141 school he gave stage checks so he checked the box. During his interview an HR person asked him about his check airman experience, and he told her proudly about giving stage checks. To a pilot familiar with part 141 regs he would be a check instructor not a check airman, and to a pilot familiar with 121 regs or ops he would obviously not be a check airman. But HR is keen on different details and the hiring pilots only check your drinking aptitude.

You all might consider yourselves check airmen because you check boxes. If HR asks about your check airman experience, don't be shy. You've checked a lot of boxes in your time. That's a bit far for me, personally. You decide what's too stupid to defend. Keep your competition in mind.

Don't leave a box empty, get an app review, and apply. I know too many people who aren't doing these simple three things yet they want to end up at ______. I told a buddy I'll walk your resume into the recruiting office and several months later he still hasn't had an app review, applied or finished his resume. Some people are comfortable where they're at despite not wanting to be there, or so they claim, but actions speak louder than words. Probably why we're hearing of so many junior FOs getting hired and not the senior ones or CAs.

definitely had mine professionally reviewed and will absolutely say that they caught a lot of things I didn’t think about. Continuously updating my app as well, maxing out my internal recommendations. Just trying to crack the code I guess

I question your story. They DEFINITELY follow up on claims like this on your background check. It’s extremely thorough, and usually isn’t completed until you’ve already gone through a week of Indoc at least. At which point you’ll get called in to explain. You won’t get another chance to apply to that company

I am also calming BS on that story. Your LCA certification will be in PRIA.

yes N/A. Also in your work history (which has to go back to high school), Even if that was 40 years ago. Where it asks for address, supervisor and other stuff you don’t remember put “unknown” I don’t know who my supervisor was when I was unloading produce trucks in 1993, name might have been Will, William or Mack or Buddy. Unknown is easier and accepted.

one thing that may burn you is if only go back 20 years on work history and they ask “did you ever have any jobs in High School or College?” If you say yes and start talking about those jobs and they are not on your app you may get asked to interview again in 6 months. Can’t say for sure but the person that that happened to days that was the only weird part of his interview at Delta.

Also find a friend that applied earlier and got an interview invite. Look at their application. Best template in the world is an app that made it thorough the process.
