What airline do you work with and how much do you make?

College
College institutionalises the mind and fills it with walls. The majority of self made millionaires barely finished high school.
College is excellent for creating drones. In my time I have met plenty of people who had doctorate degrees and though there were all highly educated I would hesitate to refer to anyone of them as being smart.

Skyhigh,
In general, I don't disagree with your opinion. However, <as I hijack this thread>, college (and aviation) is more than just an opportunity to learn useless info that you will never use again; but also, an opportunity to network and meet people in your field that you will see throughout your career until retirement.
My parents had his/hers strokes when they found out my brother joined a fraternity in college. When we think of frat houses we think of nude chicks, beer, pot bongs and cold pizza and so my parents had reason to be concerned.
Oddly enough, the networking my brother did at these drunkfests helped him land jobs at the ground floor with dot.com companies, RSA Data Security and another called Openwave.com. Next time you use your cell phone to browse the internet, you will see RSA provides the encyrption and Openwave provides the phone with the ability to browse.
Funny how you can network over cold pizza and warm Heinkens.

For those who are interested, here are a few classic beerfest (will explain later) slogans from back in the day...
If you don't look good...we'll drink more.
If you weren't wasted, the weekend was.
We drink more before 9 AM than most people drink all day.
Drunk chics think we're hot and hot chics think we're drunk.
If you tap it they will come.
Beer is not the answer, its the question...and the answer is yes.
Ah yes, college was great, but then I graduated and shortly after got married. The beerfest slogans above are still funny, but don't apply well anymore, except maybe on a Westpac deployment.

Hey, kind of new here and am wondering how much each of you earn and with which major airline you work with, for how long and if you are captain or first officer.
want to see how much is the most a person can earn with a major airline by working like 30-40 hours a month but getting minimum hour pay.
Just wondering since I heard some people on here say that they earn like 300k, 400k a year but dont understand how thats even possible.
thanks in advance everyone.

There really aren't that many jobs working for other people (you're not your own boss) that pay well these days. Medical industry? Just ask any doctor that works for Kaiser how it pays (not to mention the incredible debts from medical school).
I graduated from college with a degree in computer science and went to work in the tech industry. All was gravy until the dot com bust of course. Downsizing and job cuts are completely different in other industries. In tech, there are NO furloughs, NO seniority, NO union protections, nothing. Management decides they need to downsize 30%? They usually choose the highest paid first. Then they move on to low performers. They know that they can replace any high paid workers with entry-level grads with ease. Intel, Hewlett-Packard, SUN, Cisco, etc. All these fall into these categories, just ask anyone who's worked there. In fact, Intel is known as "binge and purge", as in they hire a bunch when the going's good, and fire 'em all when the going gets bad. Also not to mention most of the work these days is going to India
After losing my tech job I got my master's and began teaching at a state university full time in computer science. Let me tell you, you would not believe the politics at the university system. It is not about education. It is about who brings in the money, who gets "clout" by publishing, who sucks up to the dean and provost. There were tenured professors in my department who still taught on the Apple IIe because they didn't want to learn the new technologies. And since they had tenure, they were not going to lose their jobs for it. Budget cuts came around fairly quickly and again I was cut loose. And by the way, you won't get rich as a college professor either, although the lifestyle isn't bad.
So now I'm on my 3rd career at the airlines, and I am constantly asked by colleagues what the hell I'm doing here with a master's in compsci. So sorry for the rant and the thread hijack, but trust me, ALL jobs have bad points, EVERYONE complains about their jobs, and you probably AREN'T going to get rich unless you're upper management or your own boss (or maybe a lawyer or entertainer).

I'm thinking about buying some cheap farm land outside town and starting my own junk yard. Only problem is I need to get a mean dog, the one I have now wants to make friends as soon as he meets a stranger.
