The TSA and ATC aren’t working for free. They’re working for delayed pay.

PTAPTP REPORTING??
Those giving tours in Yellowstone may be furloughed.
It seems to usually end up as a paid vacation, time off now, back pay later.
There was a recent article about how the cost of servicing the debt is climbing steeply as rates increase.
It’s no fun to go out with someone on a budget, I know. Bob over there doesn’t worry about such things, it’s more fun with him.

What happened last time? I don’t remember. One thing I don’t understand is why the government gives backpay to employees for work they didn’t do. They furlough the non-essential employees, then make them whole when they come back from furlough.

With staffing levels the way they are it doesn’t take much. We need to stop holding paychecks hostage from people that are forced to work during the shutdown. Nothing is going to resolve the ATC staffing ****show like new hires knowing every few years they’re going to have to pay their bills with IOU’s.

I’m a mechanical contractor, we currently have a few government projects going on. Most of the time they pay within 90 days of completion. The shutdown is more optics and we will still be paid, same as TSA and ATC. I’m not worried about it.

millions of our military personnel will have pay withheld while in shutdown but will get it in lump sum when signed into law. I’ve gone through it many times and it’s a hiccup at best.

Yes, government employees do receive back pay whenever the budget is finally passed (as they should). The issue is when you have a $15/hr TSA employee living paycheck to paycheck who knows they won’t receive their next paycheck on time, they can call in sick from TSA and go work at a side job that will pay them on time. This will definitely happen at lower level essential government employees. Not sure if it will impact ATC, but it absolutely could.
The rules really need to change. Just because the Speaker of the House can’t get his party in line to pass a budget, it shouldn’t affect government employees. Government employees should all keep working and being paid at current levels until a new budget is passed.
