Here's some sun on NWA, and some general gloom to go around:
Gloom:
Quote:
CAL,DAL,SWA,UPS,FDX

CAL has REALLY crappy 1st year pay, you might get based in Guam, and, for me, the basing options aren't good.
DAL-my buddy there, who's helping me try and get an interview said it was terrible and to go somewhere better (heard that before).
SWA-Just offered a buyout to 25% of their employees (NOT pilots), which, obviously, is not a good sign, unless you're certain SWA pilots who say it means they're doing great!!!???!!!
UPS-Not hiring, and a two-leg commute for me
FedEx-Not hiring for 12-18 months
UAL-Sounds even worse than NWA
USAir-Hiring soon-sounds TERRIBLE
Alaska-Interested, but it sounds really bad when you read all the posts, plus the commute is bad for me.
Some sunlight???
DAL: Sounds pretty good to me-decent basing options, decent pay, pay raises in current contract, buying a lot of planes, supposed to have the best travel benefits, not many mil guys applying so best opportunity for civvy guys.
NWA: My buddy is there. He said it's LOTS better than his old job (mine now). Further, he says it's about the same as before 911 except flies about 8 hours more a month and somewhat less pay. He is year 3 -9 FO and is making about $75K/year. He got $80K in the bankruptcy settlement. He is home a lot (lives in base)-more than in last job. Says NWA will either be buying the Boeing 100 seat aircraft (2010 or 2012-can't remember) or the Bombardier "C" airplane that is 100+ seats to replace the -9. Either airplane will be flown by NWA pilots, as all planes over 74? seats go to NWA. Buying -787s and -330s now. They are the LAUNCH customer for the -787.Also, talked to a bunch of -757 capts/fos who said it was a pretty good job. The commute would be EASY for me. Also, good chance of merging with DAL, which will help NWA, in my opinion (like they could replace the NWA mgmt with DAL mgmt!!!).
USA 3000: Hiring if 4000TT + and sounds like a good job if live in base (new hires DTW/ORD) OR if wanting to fly in Asia. All hires get -320 type, and with 500 hours u r elligible for a TON of great contracts in Asia
Atlas: Now new hires will get flow to STN (London) paid for by the company to start work. 747-8s on order and sounds like lots of growth and money ahead. Should be hiring in 6 months.
Good luck to you!
