Ex NK; AA vs UA
#11
I'm sure I'm not the only NK Captain that pulled their head out of the sand today. For a less than spring chicken guy looking to pull the rip cord the best two seniority saving options seem to be AA or UA. Any recent guys at either who have left NK or something similar? Are there current pay scales and contracts on the web? Is UA still upgrading new hires to CA?
I'm admittadly way behind on my research here and it's certainly time to fix that.

Don't see the rush to leave spirit.

then comes our saving grace, JetBlue.
now with that killed (Jetblue might decide not to appeal)
Spirit just seems like a hopeless place with the company bleeding money, engine issues ground a lot of our fleet…heck how can we even call ourselves a major airline and we don’t even fly to Denver anymore.
also a year ago we cut DFW, ORD, and DTW almost in half.
how can we negotiate to get the pay rates the legacies can when we loose money every quarter.

Roughly 35% of NKs fleet will be parked by end of 24' and our management has NO plan B without the merger; they've outright said it. That's what has changed in two years.

It’s incomprehensible how anyone working at a ULCC living in DFW would wait until now to leave for AA. Same philosophy for ATL with Delta. But yeah if you live near a legacy hub it’s highly recommended you get off your ass and make an effort to be hired at said legacy.
Spirit and Frontier are both in big f*cking trouble.

Go where you want to live #1 as previously stated. I left NK mid 2022 to AA, I pulled the eject handle when the F9 merger was announced/downsizing DFW CA by 65 announcement. I was a 7 year NK CA. It would have possibly left me at the bottom of the DFW CA list and wondering if DFW would even be around post merger. I was not willing to commute for 28 years left in this career. I questioned my decision in the beginning, but I am very happy at AA. Starting over always stinks, but I will be within $29 an hour 2 years in at AA mid 2024 compared to what I was making when I left NK on the old contract as a CA. Movement is pretty quick, much quicker in other bases. At AA you will not have the QOL that you did at NK, but it isn't horrible. Seniority fixes a lot of that and it is still moving quickly with retirements and growth.
Same, same.
