From the seniority list -

March 2020 newhire at AA - 71%
March 2021 ....none
March 2022 - 78%
March 2023 - 89%

March 2024 newhire projections in a year? 89% . Assumes 1,800 newhires and 800 retirements.

The previous newhire projections in March 2025?
March 2020 newhire? 63%
March 2022 newhire? 69%
March 2023 newhire? 78%

Retirements AND hiring is greating crazy advancements AND protection.

I’ve been saving a cigar for when I get to 80% on the UA seniority list and was searching around for some cocktail napkin math for when that might happen. That’s why I’m reading your comment now.

You called it, literally! The moment before the big AA machine stopped. I was at Envoy in Mar 24, and heard that AA wasn’t hiring until July. When July came…AA announced they weren’t hiring until ’25.

An AA March 2023 hire was still 89% in January 2025. The March 2024 hire was still 99% in January 2025. Sliceback should stop flying and start buying penny stocks and reading palms!

what happened to all the retirements AA was supposed to have on top of attrition?

I’m May ‘23 and right at 80%, so initial projection seems accurate to me.

People post annual numbers but retirements are very lumpy. This year almost all of them were in the last 4 months of the year.

What attrition does American have besides retirements? Maybe a few leave within the first year because their preferred legacy finally called.

That surprises me. I am a late '22 hire at WN and sitting at 79%. I would have thought I would be further behind, although I imagine things are going to accelerate quickly for you while slowing down for me due to less hiring.

That’s really good. It took me 13 years to get out of the bottom third (66.6%). At 18 years I’m almost in the top third (33.3%), should happen early next year.

What attrition lol? This isn't a career stepper airline. And yes AA still leads in retirements.

I was hired at WN in 2015. I’m at 50%. Seniority projected for me at retirement in 2040 is 8%.

I am an early 2023 hire at AA. I am 78% and will hit 50% roughly sometime around 2031, but that is using current staffing. Maybe 2030 with some growth. I will retire around 14%.
