Default Ugly day at LGA

Interesting day for LGA. 2nd SWA go around seems to have more than weather as a issue. Winds at 3000 180/48.

Wonder if they knew it was a non coupled approach. Even though I've never seen it throw signals off like that. But there's obviously a reason

Sailingfun, as always, you're the master of the understated post.

Wow. Anyone who clicks the link just go to 2:22 and watch to the end.

No judgement here. That was a great find.

"Say the reason, uh, like, why you were not on the approach."

Why does everyone think they coupled the approach?

Backup several seconds earlier. The JetBlue directly in front of them went around for wind shear. SWA would have heard that, tower never bothered bringing it up.

I agree tower should have mentioned it. However, this brings up the point that just mentioning “some wind shear” as a reason for go around isn’t the same as a PIREP of wind shear. This is likely the reason ATC didn’t inform other crews. Also, it was an interesting coincidence how republic stated they needed more than 4000’ and amazingly the visibility improved just enough.
Let’s look out for each other out there.

Jet Blue did not correctly report that they encountered windshear. They failed to use the word Pirep and provided no detail.

Agreed, and the pause in the response makes it seem like they were trying to find a way to describe what happened. I'm sure the winds helped cause them to become unstable but I doubt they had an actual windshear alert. Tower did the right thing here and nothing wrong with the other aircraft continuing their approach.

I don’t know what the ATC manual says, but when the word “WINDSHEAR” is used associated with a go-around the tower should forward that information. The JetBlue crew had their hands full and as professional as we all are the exact phraseology doesn’t always come out of our mouths.
