Yeah I don’t understand the hate some folks have for this thread. I’d like to know how my peers on other airframes are doing WB F/O vs NB Cap, or what strategy they use to max days off or pay.

G4 Year 1 FO
W2: $68k ($48k regular + $20k in perdiem/premium)
Hours flown: 350

Live in smaller base and mostly make MMG but try and hustle in Florida as much as I can.
Note: $44k in my retention bonus piggy bank. (those not familiar we get bonus money paid out in lump sum after new contract gets signed, jury is still out if we'll actually get that money)

Well it sure as *** is not a day of work…

In the end, it’s obviously a different animal if you are a commuter vs. local. If you are local and never get used (happens on WB at my shop all the time), you will never ever convince me that pilot only had 13-14 days off. That would be disingenuous and intellectually dishonest .

The only fair/honest way to compare reserve is full disclosure of commuter vs. local, and how much SC used vs unused. Apples:apples.

Even for lineholders, things like IMAX or credit surfing can skew the totals for someone on the outside looking in, just trying to judge how much they are likely to work and/or get paid.

Day off is defined in most Alpa contracts. A calendar day free from all duty with the company which occurs in a pilot’s domicile. Anything outside of that is not a day off by definition.
We start adding other things such as unused res days or sick days all we’re doing will eventually be lowering the contractual day off minimum.
res work rules are an entirely separate conversation.

Giant tree bought with SCC (short call credit, 1 hour pay above guarantee if unused at Delta)

Put up on a SC period.

Decorated on another.

And a 30 hour rest over Thanksgiving by tactically bidding.

Odds are I will not fly in November.

80% in category 757/767 Captain
Live close enough I can sit short call in bed up in the hills of North Jersey.

Nice. The most recent agreements seemed to have solved the res puzzle. Taking pressure off res commuters with short call incentives for locals. That and voluntary airport res.

A day paid to do nothing is amazing!

But we should be honest about it and count it as a day on duty.

agreed. When I’m available for reassignment but don’t get used is that a day off?
No it’s not because it falls outside the contractual definition. That’s just good reassignment language.
if we start making some of these provisions days off it’s all downside from there. Right now I can choose to go below min days off.
If Management can count an unused res/reassignments a day off they can now squeeze in some un forecasted training without violating contractual min days off. This has always been an on demand 135 problem. Let’s not drag it over to 121.

If I can't climb Mt Everest I'm not off. If I can't plan an activity weeks in advance I'm not off.
