Oil Surges above $85/barrel

Hi!
Explaining a couple of things on my posts:
First, renewable energy is, obviously, what will be ultimately required, vs. using ANY type of fuel that is non-renewable.
Electricity generation:
The large plants generate X amount of energy, which is, normally, enough for peak use, which is typically 2-5 PM local time. The elec energy used between, say, midnight and 6 AM is minimal. Hence the existing plants have HUGE amounts of electrical energy generated at night that currently is not used.
Wind Turbines at FL 180:
They are tethered to the ground with a cable that will transmit the electricity to the ground:
Space-based energy:
Work is being done on orbit-based mirrors that will send solar energy to ground stations.

That looks cool and all, but what exactly is holding them up there? and what if the wind dies down? I know this isn't the ultimate discussion here, but the ideas that are being tossed around atleast have to be somewhat realistic. How many of those can we possibly put up there if we really could? Since energy is such an important part of our lives, I think there should be certain locations in our country that are set aside geographically strategic places simply to produce renewable energy, ie. solar, wind, etc..

Hi!
All I know, technically, about the "Sky Turbines" is that they're in the jetstream, so no problems with the winds.
I assume they'll be computer controlled and moved around to maintain the best possible weather for their energy production.
