Legacy pay comparison

While "setting the bar higher" is a goal we all strive for, raising that bar amongst carriers like SWA, CAL, FEDEX, etc., is like mixing apples and oranges. SWA flies one type of plane domestically (737), CAL flies 4 different aircraft (737's, 757's, 767's, and 777's) worldwide, and FEDEX flies ONLY cargo. The similarities? We all fly airplanes, but comparing each company to each other is like saying a Mercedes should be be as cheap as a Volkswagen because they're both cars and do the same thing. Unfortunately, low ticket prices have hampered the ability to raise the bar at many carriers and their always seems to be a "spoiler" that refuses to raise prices along with everyone else. Freight doesn't complain and worry about missing its connection and being compensated, a fact that costs mainline carriers a LOT of money. I certainly hope we can ALL raise the bar, but for everyone to think EVERY carrier can continue to do it is in my opinion, just a bit shortsighted.
I looked at your post for quite some time before I decided it couldn't go unanswered by myself. I will agree that CAL flies other a/c and international and therefore similarities are "difficult" to express in words for some. A Mercedes vs. VW? Which one would describe CAL? Freight folks are making a killing and doing well because their competition hasn't been subsidized by Bankruptcy protection! Plain a simple fact is that reorganization in Bankruptcy leaves many in the dust. Please don't blame the "spoiler" unless you have analyzed where you have come from (CAL's two BK's). SWA will have to adjust to all the "new" competition and figure out a way to make money and increase it's stock price in an industry which will not let anyone fail. In the future please don't beat your chest and say "Look at how great I am." I wouldn't have touched CAL in the 80's. Things look great there now - upgrade, equipment, etc. but please have a little humility!

Don't judge the airline world based on these threads. Some folks get mean while sitting around on reserve and troll these boards looking for controversy. These boards are the daytime television of some of us in between going to the gym and grilling dinner while sitting around on reserve.

Perhaps we should get back on topic. Unless anyone wants to start a discussion about the definition of "legacy." Also the propects for any pay raises based on current profit levels at all the airlines and the leverage the pilot's have.
Just wondering. Then again I am just a SWA guy with a life sentence on a 737 so what do I know?
