I am happy where I am, and feel that in the long term, especially after accruing a year or more of seniority by the time SWA calls, I will be in OK shape. And I can fly internationally if I so desire.
I'm sure SWA is great for many folks, but my current gig is great for me.

Folks,
Got the phone call today. I'm in the 9 April class....pool date of 25 May. Long time in coming. PD said they are taking 24 in this class and 24 more on 23 Apr.
For those of you who are deferring, my sincere best wishes to you on your future flying endeavors. To those still waiting, hang in there!

SamFox, congratulations and welcome aboard! Did they mention if there were any former SWA Capt's in your class or were they all accommodated in the April 2 class?
Update: Just received a call from the People Dept. and was told that the 02APR08 class will be 15 returning pilots only. The next two classes are to be 24 poolies each.

Not really sure why they aren't mixed in, but I was under the impression that some remaining 60+ guys could possibly fall into our class.
The only thing I can think of is that because they were already previously qualified w/SWA, their training will be a lot shorter. I'm sure guys/gals who are on medical of other leave of absence and come back, don't have to do the entire indoc and initial training all over again. Just my guess.

I had a PD CA jumpseat with me to DAL last week (second week in Feb) ; he said that April is planned for one class of 24 retirees. However; his opinion was that it could go as low as 14 since "more than a few" were not fully committed to returning for 1st year FO pay. The other Apr classes will be just poolies. He also said that he is hopeful that new interviews will begin "next winter."

Shredder, nothing is keeping me from accepting a class with SWA. It's a choice for personal reasons is all. I think SWA is a great company and I have a lot of friends that are very happy there but where I am now (if I am able to keep my job!) puts me in a better position to reach my long term goals.
