All planned hiring for NWA already took the retirement of the dc9s in to account. Well all except for the last bunch of cuts(17 planes). NWA planned on hiring 350ish this year but will end with around 200 hired. So even with parking some of the planes the staffing at NWA should be fine. There probably will be some displacements from DC9 CA though.

That's a good attitude, hopefully our MEC's feel the same way - I hope we can work something out to benefit everyone (and hopefully no furloughs).

What is the manning level per DC-9s? Even if it's just 4 FOs and 4 CAs..that's 136 pilot positions NWA will no longer need, with no deliveries for NWA for at least 18 months (but realistically, probably closer to two years).
As a junior Delta guy, I'm afraid your optimism isn't rubbing off on me. And any "no furlough" clause will be great, but I imagine it would come at the expense of other compensation; hopefully the senior guys will play ball...

Don't put too much faith in a No furlough clause. I spent 4 1/2 years on furlough from DAL when we had a no furlough clause. The company plowed right on over that! Force Majeure covers just about everything management could think of to get rid of people.

Quite true, and when it comes down to it. Will the senior guys vote for that over compensation that they have had taken away from them already. Nope. Money first. We knew what we were getting in to when we came to these airlines. Such is life.

I would rather be on the street than see the company fold trying to keep me working when I am not needed.

NWA is not taking any deliveries in 2008 or 2009 IIRC.

Yes, and there was a lot of hiring going on for those deliveries, which has now been stopped. They will need pilots for all of those 777s and 737-700s. There will be some displacements from the left seat of the DC9, but there are still furloughs that have not accepted recall yet. There are also still guys retiring. Not everyone is sticking around on the possibilty of a merger stake. I understand your "expect the worst, hope for the best mentality" but rather than worrying about furloughs lets focus on being unified and fighting for a good deal.
