Dont take me wrong when I say this......Im not taking EWRBased's side what so ever......BUT this thread that you started..IMHO seems like you are rubbing your companys fortunes in everyones face.....something none of us need right now......
Everyone knows what a well run and profitable company WN is.....let it go already......

Considering the market environment, I think CO is doing pretty good. Everyone, including UPS is taking a beating in the market regarding fuel prices. Simply put, everyones bottom line affected. A market report isn't really rubbing anyones fortunes is it? <g>
Still think most take a good job wherever we find it when we are on that job hunting escalator and accentuate the positives, downplay the negatives, make fun of management, and try to survive the tumult that has always been, will be, the airline industry. It is our nature. Haven't met a pilot group yet that I haven't enjoyed. We all have our unique characters, but like a family, celebrate with everyone. We all need thicker skin and quit bashing each others pilot groups. Few tumbles of luck we all could be somewhere else.

An interesting trend here, is that EVERY SINGLE TIME anybody criticizes SWA, you SWA guys come running to the rescue as if someone has just committed heresy. Not everybody believes in the SWA Koolaid, guys - why is that so hard to handle? Either that person needs to be "reported" or they're just plain crazy. Either way, it seems to demonstrate a rather arrogant attitude. I, for one, am a little tired of SWA arrogance, as well as watching your airline rub it in everybody else's faces about your management's (not your) successes in hedging and managing an airline. Congrats for being in the right place at the right time in getting hired at SWA, but you might wanna watch just how high in the air your collective noses get....just my opinion.

There is a difference between posting about SWA's success and flaming folks about it. As long as the flamebait goes away, APC is a better place. That's my main concern. I'd like to see APC be a kinder, gentler, place than the beginning of this thread. Kudo's to whoever can help with that.

Mulcher - I believe you were indeed trying to just post the facts. I think SWA is a great airline and I've got quite a few military bro's who work for them. One of the great things about SWA is how military friendly they are and how large their contingent of military flyers is. I say kudos all around. However, I would be very cautious about having the perception of gloating (whether you did or not is neither here nor there) about SWA's profits when obviously everyone at the legacies is anxiously awaiting this merger garbage to either solidify or go away. And obviously your smiley face added fuel to the fire. Remember, karma is a real witch. Just my .02. And again, congrats on the profits.

I read somewhere that SWA has in 2009 has 50% of their fuel hedged at $51 a barrel. Compared to Alaska hedging at $80 a barrel (and their the second best!). That gives SWA a huge huge advantage considering fuel in 2009 could be 120-140 a barrel. Those airlines with little or no hege will have a much more difficult time.
Future Fuel Hedge Positions
Approximate % of Expected
Fuel Requirements
Approximate Crude Oil
Price per Barrel
First Quarter 2008
50% $66.88
Second Quarter 2008
50% $72.60
Third Quarter 2008
50% $78.03
Fourth Quarter 2008
50% $76.74
Full Year 2008
50% $73.72
First Quarter 2009
16% $83.97
Second Quarter 2009
16% $82.90
Third Quarter 2009
12% $82.95
Fourth Quarter 2009
10% $82.08
Full Year 2009
13% $83.07

This site is "neat" in the sense that it rips on the extremes of success and failure.
SWA = enjoying the greatest success of any pax 121 airline right now.
Site (out of proportion) attitude: SWA = poop, and will fail.
Mesa = biggest abortion of a pax 121 airline right now.
Site attitude: Mesa = poop, and will fail.
One is correct and justified (Mesa?) and the other is not.
Makes perfect sense to me.
The way I see it, we should all rejoice in the fact that a least one pax major is being productive in our industry and setting an example that every airline should emulate, as opposed to every airline bleeding $, and EVERYONE in danger of losing their jobs.

Fair enough - the problem is that when what really needs to be done is to call out an individual like the prolific ewrbasedpilot, you can't use an adjective like stupid because it is insulting. Meanwhile, the only method we have to shovel it back over the fence is to insult the company he works for and the rest of the pilots there. My apologies for that, Continental pilots, there is "one of them" everywhere.
How exactly do we report a post to an administrator?
Oops...nevermind I just found the little triangle at the bottom left corner of each post.

Gee, thanks.........you're entitled to your opinion, but I'm not. Just as you are "supposedly" a company man, so am I. Nothing wrong with that, but when the playing field is leveled, and it will be, things will be different. Comparing SWA to CAL or UAL is like comparing a Volkswagen to a Mercedes. Yep, they're both cars and do the same thing, but one is a whole lot different than the other. I guess that's a point guys at SWA can't fathom..... SWA is a great company, and nobody disagrees with that point, but as some have said, when you rub everyones nose in how great you are, it'll soon come back to haunt you...................
BTW, I guess if you want to "report" me for asking how SWA will do when their fuel hedges run out you must be having some serious issues...............
