The pilots I've met at UPS without a degree are VERY senior. Know how they managed it? They put in their time and worked their way up to a third level freight carrier because lack of a degree kept them from better things. Then, UPS started an airline and hired from within the ranks of these third level contract carriers to staff it. Quite a bit of luck involved in that. Anyone think that's gonna happen again?

Having a degree is just like testing that goes on during the interview process. It is designed to eliminate.

So according to you a degree is a waste of time. OK. Get the degree at least will will open up doors for you instead of you opening up a McDonald's Store at 04:00

Let's be clear. Most major airlines/HR depts. require the 4yr degree. Requiring the degree is one way of "weeding out" or restricting their pool of applicants. It cuts down on the total number of applications they would have to go through had they not instituted this criteria.

You know, you kinda remind me of the guy whose attitude is "The answer's no ... what's the question?"

You would really fit in well with today's airline management.

I though that you and I were buds? I was trying to find the upside. However I don't think that a four year degree is worth much anymore. All of my college friends are either poor and struggling or switched to a blue collar career. The future of the middle class belongs to skilled blue collar workers.

Not all college degrees are created equal...history, sociology, biology, aviation (): useless. Finance/accounting/economics and several engineering degrees are still fantastic choices.

How about self satisfaction, and the ability to get a job else where if things to work out in the wacky world of aviation? Better jobs are hard to get without a degree. Also its not a crime to finish college either.
