Would you go to the WN interview without the 737 type?

I interviewed w/o the type, got hired, then got my type. Interviews have started up, and requirements have not changed--type is only required to start training, not get an interview.
That said, I would suggest getting the type now if money is not a factor. You will definitely get called quicker for an interview. Biggest advantage from the company's standpoint is that the more guys with a type that they interview and subsequently hire, the more guys that are available for training ASAP. With the pool being drained quickly, SWA wants to hire as many guys/gals w/types to make sure the training pipeline is not interrupted if classes continue thru the end of the year. And all indications are that this is the case.

Any 121 pilot that's been around long enough to build quality, competitive total and turbine pic times should* have connections at WN.
* Unless that person lived in base and flew round trips between Missoula and Bellingham only.

Money always matters.
Make an informed decision, understand the consequences.
Pros/Cons of getting the type as I see em:
Pros
It demonstrates comittment to the company/getting the job.
There is a proven track record of being able to interview sooner with a type. This directly translates to being on property sooner=higher seniority=$.
Cons
Costs money with low chance of return on investment unless you get hired at SWA. Historically about <20% of intervewees get hired.
Shows high level of desire/commitment to SWA, which is tough to explain to other companies in the event of an unsuccessful attempt at SWA
That said, I interviewed there w/o a type and got hired, took a year to get an interview, probably 5-9 months longer than it should (but that is a swag at that) and then getting a type, waiting for a class will cost me almost a year of seniority, you can do the math, but no matter how you calculate it, a year of hiring and lost seniority is a big #, especially at SWA. I chose to wait, I knew the consequences and don't regret my decision at all. Some folks would second guess it, but only through the prizim of 20/20 hindsight, and not one of them offered to pay for my type before I got hired.
Everyones situation is different, good luck with your decision. You can PM me if you have specific questions.
