I can't say for sure, but I would bet that if you got the call for an interview without the type, that it's pretty much yours to screw away. Type or no Type, it's been my experience with those that I know who work for SWA that the PD hires the person not the credentials. To my knowledge no one really has been able to crack the code as to 'who' they hire. If it were me and I had the resources to get the type to better my chances sooner than later, I would if I really truly wanted to work for them. Of course, they may not call you anyhow in which case you just spent that money for not all that much sim time.

This has been written several times before, but I'll throw it out again. If you have the type you move into the short stack for interviews. Guys have been known to get the call the day after faxing their type in...see the SWA interview thread. So yea...get the type.

If you've been called for an interview at SWA without the type then wait and see if you get the "thumbs-up". I didn't have the type when I went for the interview and things worked out; I went and got the type immediatly after I found out the good news. Just remember, when they ask about why you don't have the type to be totally truthful. If you get the call you have the same chance of being hired as the person sitting next to you with the type. Be humble and do some interview prep! Good luck!!

What airlines would those be? I have friends that got typed in the 737 and when SWA stopped hiring last year they got on at Delta and Continental and were never even questioned about it.

They might get asked about it. My buddy got hired with SWA last July and put his papers in to get out of the AF. The slow down happened and he had to get a job due to no immediate classes and the AF not letting him stay in longer. He intervied with Delta and they specifically asked him about it. That might very well be due to the fact that he was a military guy with no civilian experience other then a type rating. The Delta folks can read between the lines. He just answered honestly and put a good spin on it. He did and got hired with Delta -- He worked there for all of 2 weeks before finally getting called to SWA.
In regards to going to the interview without a type -- If you're lucky enough to get called without the type, then definitely DON'T get one until after you're called with a job offer. If you make it to the interview, you're on an even playing field with everyone else. While you're twidling your thumbs waiting for that call -- Go get the Type. Clear as Mud -)

It could of been. Fortunately for Delta, he was out before he hit the SIMS.
