ALPA Vs. Spirit

Other than that I was told by someone in flight ops that the next planned recall is for March 1st.

I will preface this with: this did not come from from the horses mouth (read: reliable source). I guess the rumor around the school house is the closing of the SJU base but all furloughees back online basically as soon as they can get them in classes. Can anyone expand or has anyone heard the same? Doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me but apparently more than one person is claiming they heard this.

That comes as a surprise to me (closing the SJU base that is). With the direction NK seems to be going I would have thought that would be the last place they'd shutdown. Of course I haven't been around there in a while. I hope the recall thing is true but it sounds a little too good to believe for me.

With AMR cutting their flights almost in half and a lot of carriers following (reference this article)
Winter In the Sun - Heads Up - Fewer Flights to the Caribbean May Mean Higher Fares - NYTimes.com
I would think that the only reason that Spirit would close the SJU base is if they managed to find away to increase flights and do it cheaper than having an entire base open.

Hotels are ridiculously expensive in SJU; just like ACY; I don't forsee either of those places closing down in any near future, unless they shift the entire operation to FLL (DTW auto industry meltdown).

I think all these rumors about when new airplanes will arrive are a little rediculous.....we will get new airplanes when the banks decide to finance them.
I also dont think there is any chance SJU will close, loads are good there and it is too expensive to overnight a couple crews every night.

No offense, but was this the AM rumor or the PM rumor? Because I woke on a text msg yesterday that said 85 to be called back ASAP and SJU to close. Plans were to crank up flying and it was a mistake to return planes. While I admit it woke me up quick, it made little sense, especially the 85 and close SJU part. Indeed there should have been a vacancy bid out by now for January but there was none. So now we can hope February. So after some calls I decided to show up to fly my cushy shiny C210 mode-C only, over the glades, praying with the boxes, while fighting the urge to stop myself from answering "spiritwings" radio calls.
On the other hand, didn't they say that the fuel hedge was sold to cover down payment for the planes, since that was not financable anymore? That did not sound very honest to me either. This management has proven to us many times over and over, that what comes out of their mouth is as good as the stuff that comes out of their... rear.
It just shows that there is no way to know what or whom to believe because even those who should know, don't know what they are about to do next. Btw that does not surprise me in this volatility. Many things must be depending on deals with forces outsided management's contrl like investors, banks, overall market health etc...
But please keep the rumors coming! That is the only reason I still log on here. It is better than sitting in the dark.
