calcapt,
I applied online almost a year ago and have heard nothing form CAL. A friend who applied last fall got an interview within a couple of months. He tells me that it is very important to have a CAL pilot walk a resume into a chief pilot's office, or better yet into the recruiting dept. The CAL pilots I know haven't heard anything about this. Does it help to send a friend to drop off my resume? Will they accept and consider a resume that I drop off myself? Any advice on who's office to send my CAL friends to, or any other related tips?

On this forum I see the lists of airlines from which CAL has hired pilots to fill it's newhire classes. Most are regional airlines and almost all are CFR Part 121 or 135 airlines. Last year I left a regional airline to get some international heavy jet expierence so I now work for a foreign carrier. I've heard that US carriers like to hire current 121 pilots. Does CAL hire pilots from foreign carriers? Would I have a more competetive application if I were currently working for a Part 121 air carrier?
Thanks for any of your thoughts on the subject!

The only way I know to get inside is to have a CAL friend talk with his chief pilot or Asst Chief pilot about you. They have all the secret tools to know what's going on. I have inquired a few times for friends and have got good information back on where the person is in the pile and when and if they should expect an interview. I don't pretend to know from day to day what is the hot thing to have and what's not. I think currency and a good work record should get you off to a good start. I think the days of walking things in personally are over since CAL went to the online apps system. I know of several pilots who have been hired recently with foreign carrier backgrounds.
I wouldn't quit that to go back to a regional. Are you getting PIC time there? That could be an issue. Have your friends at CAL inquire with their chief pilot - I'm sure they can get you an answer one way or the other. Good luck!

Thank you. I'll try to get someone to talk with the chief pilot or asst. and keep my fingers crossed. After reaching 1000 PIC in the little regional jet I moved to my current heavy-jet job where I'm SIC without an upgrade opportunity in the near future. I'm hoping 1000 jet PIC and 5500+ total time is competetive enough. Thanks again!
