Some of the "excuses" at UAL are almost humorous.

Would love to hear about that strike at UAL, what went down, and what the scabs excuses were.

There are no excuses. If you got a family to feed (like the rest of us), or whatever, go get another job to make ends meet while you are on strike.

Thinking back, and it was over 20 years ago, one prevalent thought I still have is that a high percentage of guys who scabbed had some prior "trouble/difficulties" or were generally considered "weak sisters".

There were guys who scabbed that totally surprised me and then guys who I thought would scab and turned out to be some of the stronger supporters.

One very common excuse was that Ferris (UAL CEO) was going to win and they wanted to be on the "winning" side.

Another excuse was the "super-seniority" that the company was promising to the scabs.

I might add, just for your perspective, that I worked on an MEC Committee with a scab - there's a long story behind that one - years after the strike. We got along quite well.

I also got to see some "inside" stuff as I was a member of our MEC during that time.

Just for the record 757 and my own education................I thought most of the 84 SCABS were gone. Can you estimate how many there are. We have a few Eastern SCABs a FDX........

To Fireman: How many are Still at United. I remember one time in 1991 jumpseating on UAL from ORD to Los Angeles. It was a DC-10 crew. The Capt welcomed me aboard (after he made sure my name wasn't on a certain list).

He introduced me to the 2nd Officer. He also pointed to the FO and announced that "he was a SCAB." He said "we don't talk to him and neither do the FA's except for checklist items. So please don't talk to him"

Couldn't imagine going through the rest of my career like that, but then again, I couldn't imagine being a SCAB!

I'd say we have well over 500 still here at CAL, (that number might even be low). The good news is they are retiring at an increasing rate and we are hiring new, eager Union types to replace them.

Our IAH base seems to be the base of choice for these types while EWR is our most pro-union one.

The most remarkable thing in all of this is that a Scab named Rene Minerjas started our in-house Union, (the IACP), before we replaced it with ALPA. Imagine an MEC chairman that's a Scab. Only at Continental.

Doing the other childish and BS stuff makes the union and all in it look like booger eatin morons. Reread my post then pop off. By the way it aint your Navy or my Navy, its the active guys Navy. I just object to someone using the USNR Ret in a post, it makes all retirees look like idiots to be proud of and advocate those actions.

Wow, I can't believe you just wrote that with a serious face. A legal strike is an avenue used for many many years by workers to keep bully management tactics in check. Hardworking men and women, the backbone of our country, have fought hard over the years to make the workplace safe and be able to make a decent living at it. Now along comes some sorry a$$ loser who has paid no dues or doesn't give a $hit about others and agrees to cross a picket line and take a man's job for a few less dollars. Please keep in mind, this is a legal strike. Now you come along advocating that we take a deep breath to visit and share our feelings with this moron. That defines manhood to you? A wingman my friend is there to check your six and offer suport - and doesn't suggest having brunch with the enemy. I have flown wing on hundreds of missions and never did it cross my mind to leave them vulnerable and go do my own thing - It's called trust and integrity! This issue is exactly about leaving your wingman contrary to your post. And by the way, it is my Navy! I worked hard defending this country and left proud of my service. Never once did it occur to me, nor will it ever, to write Jane Fonda a fan letter explaining why I feel so bad about what she did and how much more of a man I feel I've become because I am able to share my feelings with her. Having nothing to believe in and standing up for nothing is what makes you a "booger eatin moron" as you so professionally put it. BTW, Jane's new movie will be in theaters soon. As I know you will be there opening night, don't save me a seat - I'll be home working on my manhood! And another thing: I am captain_drew's wingman today and if you fu@k with him again I'll be forced to shoot a sidewinder up your tailpipe - you see, that's what a good wingman does!

flight 25, would you care to share your background in "my Navy" and perhaps what you are doing today? I think it would be informative for our forum participants to get some idea of where you are coming from.

Good for him, maybe this proves that people can learn.

I wonder, is a reformed SCAB as in your face about not being a scab as is a reformed smoker in your face about not smoking?

I'll bet that Rene Minerjas would not currently advocate crossing a picket line.

Good Luck to all of you at Delta

If I were Navy, I'd give you a big ditto. All I can do is add my sincere agreement to this post.
