I was very concerned about the DAL crews in BOM myself. As soon as I could yesterday I got on DLnet and saw that they had all been accounted for. I breathed a sigh of relief. I'm so, so glad they are okay.
So we've got DAL, NWA, FDX, UPS so far. Do we know of anyone else that was in the Bombay area? It's so scary... how all this can happen out of the clear blue sky. It certainly put a dark cloud over my thanksgiving day.
BTW - I've never been to BOM myself, but is the airport close to the city, and those hotels?

I think all American airline crews are OK.
So far "only"
two Americans have been accounted as killed by the terrorists and they were " ...identified as Alan Scherr, 58, and his daughter Naomi, 13, from Virginia died at the Oberoi. They were visiting India with a meditation group... "
My condolences and prayers go out to all the victims: the Americans, other foreigners and tourists and the Indians who were the vast majority of those murdered.
160 civilians killed - CNN.com
On a different note, I cannot find the link right now but apparently some of the terrorists came from Pakistan and had British passports…
If true, Londonistan is once again showing its ugly face….

And finally its a 1 hr drive from the airport..
All in all it sucks. I worry as much about all those nice kids working the front desk and the bell guys... remember most the folks killed were Indians....

Most major carriers stay in and around that area although at certain times (like now) there are acceptable hotels near the airport. As far as out of the clear blue, well not really if you have been there and do a little reading about the place you wouldn't be surprised at all.

Yeah I'll be the first to admit I don't know a lot of history on India, or even the current problems and issues they have over there.
I'm just glad everyone from our extended family is okay. It's just very frustrating that they hate us so much.
I try to live by the golden rule most of the time, but I just can't find it in my heart to do it. Is it wrong that when I see Muslim's praying on their towels, on their knees, in the gate area of the Detroit airport before they got on a flight? I saw it on Monday night, and I just felt myself getting mad. It probably makes me a bad person.

That would be truly sad. The area where the two hotels is located is one of the more interesting places in Mumbai......IMO kind of goes down hill from there. The up-scale hotels at the airport are nice, but definitely nothing to do off grounds. A few years ago when Pakistan and India were rattling their sabers at each other and it was getting really hot, we stayed at an airport hotel. The hotels in question are about an hour from the airport and corporate security did not want the crews that far away incase there had to be a hasty departure. A lot of the crews ended up hiring a cab to take them to the Oberoi so they could shop at Chris & Anil's and eat out.
