World Airways Questions

World and NAA are being operated as 2 seperate companies under World Air Holdings as the parent company. There have been no merging of seniority lists and in fact mgt is adamant the companies will not be merged. NAA has a different pay scale and work rules from World. NAA pilots and F/A's have voted in the Teamsters but neither have a contract yet. There may be some integration of ops in the sense that if a NAA plane breaks a World plane might be able to sub for it and vice versa but as far as I know that's about the extent of it.

With that said, WldPlt (seems like your the only one in the know how since you work there..lol), I guess World has its own Dispatch Center and NAA has its own? Since World only has only 12 planes, what are they mostly flying, i.e. government troops, a scheduled service or charter. Maybe with all that, the planes will stay busy flying and making money for all...

wldplt, to add that what jmc said,......what are your thoughts regarding the upcoming cargo landscape for you guys regarding losing the menlo flying. I think i read that world may get some 747's.(yes i know to not believe it till you see it on the ramp), but if there is any truth to that....doesnt that kinda not fit in with the 767 acquisition? you guys got ETOPS in a hurry along with the 767's......so are you guys trying to fill in and cover all the different size cargo lifts that are available being that the 767 carries less than the Md-11, which carries less than the 747? Or is this in anticipation of getting rid of DC-10's? Seems like redundant lift. Now it seems like you guys are profitable with the military flying and the menlo flying,....so now with the loss of the menlo flying and possible reductions in military lift, what do you see going forward with your first hand knowledge regarding any possible furloughs and company direction?

Wow! Seems the more questions I answer the more questions I get. Some of the questions are drifting over into mgt territory, like where do I see our fleet structure down the road and what's the future of cargo lift. I can't answer questions like that so I won't try.
World currently has 17 planes counting the DC-10's. The only thing I can say for certain about the DC-10 fleet is that the one pax bird is going back to the lessor this fall. Presumably the company is looking for business for the 2 DC-10 freighters. We're getting 747's because that's what our Pacific customers want. The MD-11 makes a very good freighter so it will probably be around for awhile. NAA 767's are passenger only. All the cargo lift is on the World side of the house. NAA also has 757's (pax only)
World has it's own dispatch, mx, scheduling, HR etc., etc. As far as I know the only department sharing resources might be sales so they can talk to each other. Finally, I don't have any first hand knowledge of furloughs and the company's direction. Whiskypilot said it in another post. They don't tell us nuthin! The recent hiring was even a surprise to WP and me.

I vaguely remember hearing somewhere all the DC-10s will be going away leaving just the MD-11's and the alleged 74's. If we do get the 3 747s and lose the 3 DC-10's it will be a wash. I won't guess as to what the future holds, as I am always wrong anyway.
I second what wldplt said about this being a great job. Multiple legs in and out of hub airports all day is for suckas!!!
