Yep, those were some good days at XJT. CAL played that whole deal almost perfectly. I'm sure that there are folks at Delta that have been in contact with Bethune. Who they really need to call is John Prater and Mark Leneski. Those guys will let them know what they should do to divide and conquer using a flow-through. Too bad we don't have Neal Schwartz working for us here at Delta.

I agree w/ you, it's costly either way. I did not consider the 9 different fleet types. I still think it's probably cheaper to furlough a mainline pilot w/out the flow-back than to furlough the same pilot and then re-train @ Compass. I'm making an assumption here, though, that Delta is somehow ultimatley responsible for the training costs @ Compass. I guess that leads to a question: Who pays to train the flow-backs? Who owns and finances Compass?

NWA owns CPZ and therefore DAL pays for everything!

Yeah, this may be the only thread that I know my fair share about, being an XJT alum and current CPZer.

Flowthrough - Trained and typed at Compass when they flow back, then go through complete training (BI and all) going back to Delta. You are throwing an entire extra training cycle in there in addition to retraining additional pilots, and at 50K+ per, that's talking about real money.

No Flowthrough - Only have to be re-trained at Delta.

If that's the case, what's there to stop DAL from selling Compass and terminate flow/up/down agreement?

Let's hope that due to this high cost of furloughing, DAL will think long and hard before furloughing pilots. If I am not mistaken, several people have written that it would not make any financial sense to furlough pilots unless DAL furloughs more than 400 pilots for at least 2 or more years. If that's the case, I do not think furlough is a likely scenario at DAL. I guess we'll have a clearer picture by next March 2009.

Here is something pretty significant that i havent seen yet. If they ever found a way to get rid of the flow agreement then they have to reduce the number of 71-76 seaters to 85 from 125.

e. once the number of permitted 76-seat jets is established, it will not be reduced. Exception one: If a pilot on the seniority list with an employment date prior to September 1, 2001 is placed on furlough, the Company will convert all 76-seat jets for operation as 70-seat jets.
Exception two: In the event the flow provisions of NWA LOA 2006-10 and LOA 2006-14 cease to be available, either at the feeder carrier affiliate referenced in such LOAs or at another carrier, the number of jet aircraft configured with 71-76 passenger seats specified in Section 1 B. 40. d. will revert to 85.

I read somewhere that the flow goes with the sale of either company, i am still trying to find LOA2006-10 and 14. I cant find it now that they have changed the website around. Anyone else have it?

Also, if they furlough more than 330 they then face the possibility of furloughing guys at Compass that were furloughed from Delta and trained at Compass. Then when they start recalling, they re-train them at Compass and then Delta when they move up far enough.
