Just because you read a lot of chest thumping on various internet message boards, doesn't mean it represents "99%" of the seniority list.

You think AMR is just going to cough up a multi-BILLION dollar contract?

You are assuming everyone wil participate. There is already a huge faction of x-TWA pilots that have told their base chair that they will refuse to participate in ASH. There is also an embarassingly large number that have said that they will outright scab. (Before the x-TWA types start howling on here, I have already confirmed this information from several sources at APA. It is not just a rumor.)

Mr. Phallus...I agree with your sentiments regarding percentages, and the overblown numbers who will 'shut the place down'. No way AA will give huge raises in this environment we're in currently.

But, regarding ex-TWA pilots not participating in ASH or other job actions, WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??? Think anyone who's had their status downgraded, lost their seat, had their seniority stolen and had their future career completely destroyed would be just eager and anxious to help the APA conduct a job action after what they did? You really don't have their perspective, do you? I'm not poo-pooing your efforts to get a better CBA, just amazed that you'd even insinuate, much less expect, ex-TWA pilots to jump on your bandwagon. BTW, there's only 600 left at AA, our of 9300; your company and 'union' made sure the rest were fired/furloughed/forcibly retired. So, the numbers are definately in your favor if CHAOS happens.

Recall more TWA pilots.

First I would like to thank aa73, B757200ER, AA gear puller, and 7576FO for keeping people updated with the APA and AA contract negotiations. As an Eagle guy I apologies for some of my colleges and would like to remind you we are not all trying to run APA/AMR/AA from are AE seats.

As a 4 year FO at AE I can tell you for a fact AE has hired a lot of new FO’s from 2006 till late 08 for most of us this is the first full contract negotiation we have experienced. A large number of AE pilots are very interested to see what this will lead too.

As an AE FO my only concern is a Midwest type scenario. Republic Airways is waiting for Midwest to die then they will own the certificate. Large RJ’s are a threat to the industry and my future. With the age of the AA pilot my concern is APA will relax scope to keep pension and pay.

Let me also remind the AA pilots that most all AE FO’s and junior CA’s don’t want 70+ seat aircraft at AE. Only a small number of top paid AE CA’s want large AE aircraft.

Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Fly safe

I wish they would. A couple of weeks ago the rumor was they were going to recall something like 300 this year. But, of course, now we know they've stopped. If the economy keeps heading south, I'm not counting on being employed at the end of this year either.

I guess I didn't expect anyone to openly and gleefully proclaim to want to achieve the lowest and most despicable status known to our profession - scab.

The "justifications" for doing so are no better than the excuses given by any scab in the past. Just because someone says that they were "shafted" doesn't make it so - it is only their version and opinion of the story.

Can we just leave it at that? Or are we all going to have to endure another multi-page nAAtive vs. xTWA slugfest?

Max forward you are a smart man.

What would happen if Eagle started flying 80-90-or 100 plus seat jets?? A very few super senior Eagle captains would benefit. You can spot most of them a mile away in the terminals because they dress like slobs, and look like 300lbs of chewed bubble gum. As for the rest of you Eagle types-----Yes you would get to fly a bigger jet for **** wages. But you can forget ever getting to the right seat, much less left seat of a wide body. Right now it takes 9 years of AA seniority to fly 767 FO, and 20 plus years to fly CA. If Eagle started getting large jets you could almost Double those length of service times. Needless to say it will never happen. I have been at AA for Exactly 10 years, and the only contract I have ever seen has been a 35% pay cut. (23% contractual + wide body to narrow body displacement). AMR took my roughly 37K a year and started buying RJ's like crazy. I am just one of the 10,000 plus APA pilots that got totally ****ed in 03'. It is still seared into my brain. Everyone of my APA brothers, and myself will burn AMR to the Foundation before another inch is given up in scope.

Super80,

300lbs of chewed bubble gum! Ha Ha now that’s funny!

I am glad AA pilots won’t give up on scope because I would like to have a opportunity at a major airline interview. I have a little than half that time invested in your regional and I would not be hard for me to find a 50k a year job in another industry. Unlike most pilots flying is not the only thing I know how to do.

Is it possible for APA and AMR to work on a short contract? Keep things the same for something like 3 years, then negotiate again? That would give some time for the economy to turn around. Would that be in the best interest of the APA pilot group? Is that possible?

I'd suggest that your version of totally ****** and mine are two separate things.

You'd be surprised--I'll bet that APA KNOWS that the senior-most pilots with pensions to guard aren't going to be as enthusiatic about a job action, either.

Nice dilemma they're in....how'd they get there?

Every one keep in mind that AMR's total Debt was 22 Billion in 03'. Currently the Corporation is sitting on around 15 Billion total Debt. AMR may be showing losses for most of the quarters over the last several years, but they have been making at least 1.4 billion a year. Plus we had 2 billion in cash in 03', and that number ballooned to 6 B in cash. We are currently under 4 billion in cash, but we have ordered 737's--787's and took a major loss/write down for Eagle.
