Default UAL Fleet

I know this is the last topic being discussed right now at UAL, but is there any talk at all about what the end results may be with the fleet? 737 gone and the 744 being reduced, is there talk of replacements or simply downsizing with the economy? Still no talk about the 787? When this whole thing turns around, what size can UAL afford to shrink down to and still be in position to compete with AA & DAL?

IMHO, the management at United are trying to position themselves for a merger, which calls for optimizing the cost structure, which will no doubt include the fleet.

However, for the sake of speculation, if UA ends up being a part of CAL, you can expect an all Boeing fleet by the end of next decade....just my two cents.

United's McKinsey and Co. management team has been "unlocking shareholder equity" for a while and continues to do so. To familiarize yourself with the term, please find a picture of a car after all shareholder equity has been liberated.




The problem is, how do you drive that down the road? I agree with what the esteemed gentleman with a license to kill wrote. United has awesome people and did not turn in bad numbers last quarter. It is a shame the way management has outsourced their own jobs and put the Company on the wrong course.

I suspect the pilot group over there will be blamed with the line, "how did our fleet get into this shape! Why are you writing up the tires - they look fine!". "Why aren't the pilots flying the planes?"

Tilton and his group of idiots think they can be the first airline to shrink towards profitablilty in the history of the airline biz. There are no aircraft orders on the books, or any talk of any.

As long as they parachute out of the penthouse with maximum cash before the building collapses, they couldn't care less. Their Bentleys have new tires to whisk them away before the bodies start raining down from the upper floors and all they'll hear is a thud or two, before slapping themselves on the back for an escape well done.

Default Cheap pizza

When Gordon Bethune took over at CAL, he likened the place to a pizza joint that tried to cut costs. First they skimped on the cheese, then skimped on the sauce, pretty soon they were making a pizza that nobody wanted to eat.

My hope for the people at United is they are able to get rid of Tiltion Et Al, and get back to running a world class airline. I know they are working on it, but I suspect because of the injunction they haven't been able to talk about their efforts.
