Is HW any good. Are/ were they involved with AIG? Besides company and USAA what would be the next best term life Alpa?

Harvy Watt is generally where pilots go to get (or add more) disability coverage. I don't know if they offer term life.

If your looking for term life without aviation exclusions, you can look at AOPA, Pilot Insurance Center or other places. I used PIC and the policy is through Lincoln Benefit. Expect to pay more than a normal policy.

If you go out on disability with Harvey Watt, you can expect the occasional, "Hey, how you doing? Are you feeling any better? Ready to go back to work?" type phone calls from their staff.

So be ready for that.

FWIW, the aviation exclusion in term life policies usually does not apply to airline flying, just to general aviation.

Be very careful with the contract language. If you are looking to supplement loss of medical insurance the wording offered in many, but I'm not sure if all, Harvey Watt plans says it in terms of Social Security disabled and not just loss of medical. SS disabled requires you to basically be unable to do any kind of work- not just being unable to be a pilot. This is a huge point to consider since you are far more likely to lose your medical for something that will not prevent you from all other forms of work and thus keep you from getting paid out from the insurance coverage. Good luck finding what you are looking for and let us know if you find it- I've looked unsuccessfully before for loss of medical with a descent price that was also truly loss of medical insurance.

I had a good experience with them when I was out on short term disability. They guided me through all the paperwork and I got a check from them on time. They even volunteered to make some calls to a connection at the Flight Surgeon's office to get things moving, to which I declined. They seemed like they had good resources at their disposal and were nothing but helpful to me.
