Delta Flight attend. to vote

Do you guys really want the flight attendants to get a union? I know a union would help THEM in gaining ground but the pie is only so big. Every gain they make has to come from the same pool of money that we negotiate for. I know I sound selfish but our piece of the pie will be smaller if the fa's get a union and are able to negotiate items that cost the company more money. Disclosure - I'm not married to a flight attendant, hence my position.

Interesting comment Cap'n... how do you reckon that the company would be able to fire the unpleasant ones? I mean they can't get rid of the size 28s that could under no circumstance get into a liferaft or remove an overwing exit door.... how would they get rid of ones that don't fit somebody's definition of "nice"?

Nice is determined by not chastising and berating the passengers, not making a PA every 5 minutes, not acting like I'm annoying them by having to go to the bathroom once on a 6 hour flight, and ocassionally not eating all the food in the back- and maybe offering some to us.

Of course it needs to be placarded for size 12 or smaller.

What about making them pass a physical and actually doing things in recurrent. We're always telling folks the FAs are there for safety, let's make that the truth. If they're too fat, lazy or weak to pass a recurrent then are they really able to be counted on for passenger safety?
Talked to a VP of service for an overseas airline and asked him how they do it. There are a few limitations for us but the one that stuck out in my mind is they sign their FAs to a one year individual contract, if they're not making the grade or get bad customer feedback their contract simply isn't renewed.

It is something called laws. The reason that DAL lets these girls fly is money. Simply put, if they did something that would disqualify them, it would have to be something physical. If that happened, then they will drain DAL sitting at home with their cats collecting disability.
The threat of them going out on medical en mass is a real issue. Disability for 4000 FA's would cost DAL a ton.
That in a nut shell is why DAL lets them fly till they die.

I talked to a "Singapore Girl" one time, and she told me they were required to retire at 46... I am pretty sure that was years not Kilograms
