Same reason they don't service Detroit, Minneapolis, or Atlanta: smart enough to not go up against the competition. I imagine they'll serve all these places eventually. It's just right now they're doing fine without them.

AA responds very strongly to incursions on their turf. Legend tried it in 2000 or 2001 and lasted only a few months. They weren't low fare, but it was different before 9/11.

I wanted to get this thread back in the loop. Any changes coming at jetblue for hiring? I think American Eagle might hire in 2010, so I am apprehensive of leaving, but if it's Jetblue I might go.

I took a lot of criticism to come to American Eagle. AE was my very LAST choice. I had 4-5 other preferred choices: Pinnacle, Republic, Skywest, Horizon, Mesaba, Comair...

If I went to any of those listed (exp SKW) I would be furloughed!

What helped me put it into perspective was jumpseating on a UAL A320 to EWR and having the FO tell his CA that he was hired in May 1999 and was getting furloughed for the 2nd time. I don't have it bad.

As bad as my QOL is at Eagle, and it is horrible as I got displaced having to move out of my condo in ORD and have my $5000 furniture parked in a $140/mo storage unit and stay in a crashpad in Kew Gardens, I am happy to still be able to say "V1, Rotate!" Too many people at Eagle are concerned about "Upgrade Time".
No idea why you wanted to go to Pinnacle but..... if you had gone to Pinnacle, as of 10/27/2009, you would still have a job.... they have not furloughed.

I just got a voice message from a buddy of mine at JB and he said Verna Kay (who's that?) was going to a job fair next month and taking resumes from qualified pilots. Then again, it might have been Vern and it's a "he". The message was a little garbled.

Even with this expansion in BOS we are still not going to hire in 2010, we are just moving people from JFK to MCO and BOS. On the last system bid, they have a clear picture of this expansion on the number of openings in BOS and MCO, also don't forget about the 4 month runway closure in JFK next year.

Really? You seem like one of the ONLY Jetblue pilots I've spoken with who has implied this. Most are excited about the 30% growth in BOS and most are expecting more growth. Most have imiplied your hiring pool (50 ish I thought) would be used. But you are there and know more then those of us who arent. So I have to take your knowledge of the situation. But it seems odd from what others have been saying at your very company.

A couple of points to talk about:
1) no airplanes to be delivered in 2010
2) on our pilot webpage Verna has mentioned on the Oct. update No hiring for 2010.
Don't forget that even dough we are growing 30% in BOS we are only growing 3 to 4% system wide in 2010, we do have a pretty big reduction in JFK.
If I could I would copy and paste the e-mail from the JFK CP office were it shows this reduction, almost 200 crews from the bus and 120 from the E90 been reduced until Dec 2010. I'm just showing you the facts, I wish we could hire more people during the summer months we have 0 reserves system wide.
