Delta: king of the world
#21
Great news as far as I'm concerned. It's pretty hard to ratchet up pay scales on only one passenger company's pay scale, and the size of the new Delta means that there will probably be less overall demand for RJ's.

You know exactly why; because Southwest is at the top. It is the most financially stable of all of the airlines. The pilots have one of the best contracts in the industry.
When you are on top, you get attacked. People envy you.
I'm not saying 'ol Chris was attacking SWA, but the mere fact that he mentioned Southwest is proof enough.

I am not envious in the least.AA

Great DAL is the largest Airline in the world! Just like United once was, AMR once was, Pan AM once was and I think TWA also might have been. In other words being the largest airline in the world is a dubious distinction at best.
AS someone already posted - if our management starts to takes this crap too seriously we are doomed to follow the above mentioned airlines.

To each his own. I don't think that any company can be everything to everybody. I'm really happy with my pay, my schedule, and my quality of life. Next year I expect to pull down $175,000 as an FO while working maybe 14 days per month (not on weekends, I can assure you.) I am happy, and I hope that y'all are happy with your own jobs.
Got lots of buddies at Delta, and overall I am wishing them the best because they are going to go after a superior wage scale very quickly when the company does well, and that would help our profession. Good luck!

Anyway.. There are many 767 captains that envy SWA for the pay.. cause they make more. I just prefer my lifestyle to the ups-n-downs of 737 flying..been there done that. Not that it's a bad thing.. just not my bag anymore. I guess I was just taking exception to the fact that there seemd to be so many people that think SWA is the be-all end-all, and that's just not true..

I always said its better to be number two fighting for number one then be number one reveling in your position. No one has ever stayed on top forever. Not Rome, not the British empire, not Pan Am, TWA, UAL, AMR or someday DAL or SWA for that matter. Someone always comes along hungrier, more innovative with a better product, etc.
