Guess I must've missed something. What was the heat on CAL for?

I realize I'm trying to be witty (and probably failing miserably) however I am deadly serious about the damage that something like this can do to our industry.

1. We all look bad because of this.

2. The public paints us all with the same brush.

Ah for the good old days when the answer would have been "We were all coked up and double-teaming the lead while the S/O took polaroids. What's the problem?"

At least no one was drunk. I can't go through another six months of tub-stackers trying to sniff my breath in the morning without slugging someone.

I hate wearing the headset above FL180...I get hotspots on the side of my head somethin' fierce.

More worrying than that though is that as someone mentioned in another thread, this gives more ammunition to the "Cameras in the Cockpit" crowd. Someone in Washington will claim that we have to be able to see what those rascally pilots are up to. Minnesota Sen. Al Franken has already called for a complete review of Sterile Cockpit policy.

For those DL pilots interested, cockpit PED usage is addressed on FOM 3-2.10 and sure enough, no personal computers. But you have to wonder if that needs to be updated. If the pilots in question were holding printed scheduling/PBS material and discussing it at altitude, that certainly wouldn't be against the rules. Nowdays, there's so much company and job related info that comes out in electronic form that it's no wonder people are downloading a lot of it onto their computers....not excusing what happened as it's been a disastrous week for Delta, but perhaps the policy needs to be reviewed for changing times.

I believe the dispatchers have the ability to "chime" the flight crew through ACARS. It would be difficult to ignore that.

Maybe flight crews should be given an extra 5 hours of "office time" a month on their schedule so they can work out things like scheduling issues, training issues, merger issues....

Just trying to be reactionary.

Get a life. You really don't even want to go there.

Bad week for Delta - yes.

Maybe it's not the time for you to engage in another mainline v regional ****ing match.
