More worrying than that though is that as someone mentioned in another thread, this gives more ammunition to the "Cameras in the Cockpit" crowd. Someone in Washington will claim that we have to be able to see what those rascally pilots are up to. Minnesota Sen. Al Franken has already called for a complete review of Sterile Cockpit policy.
For those DL pilots interested, cockpit PED usage is addressed on FOM 3-2.10 and sure enough, no personal computers. But you have to wonder if that needs to be updated. If the pilots in question were holding printed scheduling/PBS material and discussing it at altitude, that certainly wouldn't be against the rules. Nowdays, there's so much company and job related info that comes out in electronic form that it's no wonder people are downloading a lot of it onto their computers....not excusing what happened as it's been a disastrous week for Delta, but perhaps the policy needs to be reviewed for changing times.
