FAA revokes licenses of pilots who missed airport - CNN.com
Washington (CNN) -- The Federal Aviation Administration has revoked the licenses of the two Northwest Airlines pilots who overshot a Minnesota airport by 150 miles during a 78-minute period of radio silence last week.
Capt. Timothy B. Cheney, 53, and First Officer Richard I. Cole, 54, were piloting Northwest Flight 188 from San Diego, California, to the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport Wednesday when air traffic controllers lost contact with the Airbus A320 over the Denver, Colorado, area.
Cheney and Cole told investigators they used personal laptop computers during the flight, in violation of company policy, and lost track of time, the National Transportation Safety Board has said.
They became aware of their plane's position only after a flight attendant asked about the landing time, according to the NTSB.

Thats exactly the slippery slope with all of this. There are alot of things that happen that get covered under the ASAP programs and investigated under the appropriate chains of command. However this event didnt get that process because the media took off with this "story". I agree these guys were blatantly ignoring the aircraft and should likely be fired but the FAA pulling their tickets right away just shows that these guys were just made examples of.

I take it revoked means totally gone forever.......as opposed to a suspension, and if that is the case than these guys are definatly being made examples of. I agree termination is in order and a suspension ( mabye 180 days) to think about their boneheaded move, but I'm cautious to say this should result in permanent punishment...they (6th letter of the alphabet)'ed up big time, but I also believe people can learn from mistakes, and sometimes deserve second chances, they both had clean records to date.......JMO

I cant believe you guys are making these kinds of statements. Its sickening quite frankly. And Superdad, shut your hole...will you "let your family" fly with your BUBBA buds who cant tell a runway from a taxiway?
Let the media carve them up, they dont need it from their professional brothers.
It simply could have been any of us, though most of you guys aren't man enough to admit that.
Geez...some of you guys are just pathetic. Now I remember why I rarely read this board.

These guys had tens of thousands of (apparently) trouble free hours. No question they should lose their jobs. No question they should be benched for a while. But I'm not sure about a permanent ban. I also can't shake my suspicion that they just plain fell asleep. And should have gone with that explanation. We're all human and we are all tired all the time. They'd probably still have their tickets....
