Default Camera in the Cockpit

Well I was watching the "experts" on CNN on the whole NWA 188 incident. At the end of the clip...they brought up the camera in the cockpit issue again...and made a good point that can't be argued. The point was this...The police fought hard to not have cameras in the squad car and in turn has help internal investigation not even be brought in on a certain cases....NOW...I don't know...I know that pilots have fought against having cameras in the cockpit...but now with this case...I think our hands will be tied with this and Colgan...any thoughts?

NO CAMERAS, I don't care what anyone says that video WILL be used to either fire you or put you in jail. They said it would not be used against cops but it is all the time.

Exclamation

Not for one millionth of a second should a pilot have a thought run through their head during an emergency, "I'm being watched."

Doesnt sound like something a stack of post-it notes can't fix.

Of course they will talk about this but don't look for it to happen anytime soon. First they have to develop a system. Then they need to re-design the FDR or CVR to take the new data. Next we have to test this new equipment before it can be deployed in aircraft. Then retrofit this new equipment into our aircraft. I would not worry about this happening within the next twenty years. It's one thing to change a few rules. Quite another to redesign equipment. Consider the fact that we still communicate via AM analogue radios while nearly every other analogue VHF communications systems in the world left AM long ago for FM. No, I wouldnt worry over the camera idea any time soon.

Or a pack of chewing gum. On a related note, I saw a news clip where Sen. Al Franken is calling for a ban on personal computers in the cockpit. I guess we'll have to surrender our laptops to the A line prior to push and get them back after block in.

Aren't the cameras on cop cars dash mounted and point outside? I don't think there is one that continually points at the officer and monitors his every donut.

The new "channel 9" passengers get to watch their own flight crew and listen to their discussions at FL380. Can't wait...

Default it's coming!

As much as we may not like the ideal of the cockpit video recorder, it's going to happen. It seems to always be discussed when there is an accident/incident. Especially now with the media and congress.
We are already subjected to drug/alcohol testing, cockpit voice recorders, flight data recorders, NASA reports, ASAP and FOQA. What's one more "spying" device. Supposedly these things are only used if something goes wrong.
So...JUST DON'T SCREW UP!!!

Cameras in the cockpit WILL be used to hang pilots, without a doubt. If that legislation comes up, we have to smack it down.
