That's likely the easiest explanation to a problem that's not fully understood and can't be explained. Even mold residue in the packs can be very bad for your long-term health. Keep in mind that TCP's effects are believed to be cumulative. Moral of the story: DO NOT assume anything and take no chances. It's YOUR health and career that's on the line.

According to information I have, there is a detector that will warn of TCP's that has been available in Europe for several years now, but the European carriers are fighting having it installed on the flight deck as it will prove what many flight crews have been trying to warn managements of for years. Based on my experience, TCP's most often manifest themselves as a "dirty sock" smell. If you ever notice such a smell immediately go on 100% O2/smoke goggles and land as soon as possible. I hope this helps.

Here is a document affirming this. http://ashsd.afacwa.org/docs/HCPfull.pdf
Interesting reading. First Ive heard of this but Ive flown a lot of planes with the dirty sock smelling air.

I am quite familiar with your link as I am one of the crew members referenced in table 3.
