First class and business class are relative terms on a 777. A business class seat is better than a typical airlines first class seat. It is like a normal first class seat on a 737 or 757, but you get to recline a little more, and you get a foot rest. First class on a United 777 is a fully lay flat bed. The most comfortable seat I have ever sat in.

The reason why business is always full, and first usually has 2 or 3 open seats is because frequent fliers often buy coach seats, and upgrade using their frequent flier miles. But you cannot upgrade 2 classes. Works out good in my opinion.

.

Any they use that domestically?????

So your premium customers rarely have a shot a first?????Nice. But, the way you make it sound...B/C is better. I guess a sleeper seat would be usless from LAX to ORD during the day.

It all translates to the bottom line....we'll see.

There are a few 777's configured 36 in first and 312 in coach. Mostly used on Hawaii routes. Most the SFO-DEN, SFO-ORD, DEN-ORD, LAX-IAD, etc... (hub to hub flights) are on international configured 777's. Yes, with the bed seat first class seats.

Aircraft routing is a complex maneuver. Most International stations for many airlines only provide unscheduled maintenance, or light maintenance, during the turn. By routing a heavy jet from say: NRT-SFO-DEN-ORD-IAD-LHR (using UAL as an example) you can complete the required maintenance AND provide a premium seat domestically. Of course the cost of multiple cycles and short legs would be a concern - but like you say, the bottom line would tell the tale.

Agreed. I guess CAL took an over simplistic route by configuring all A/C the same...with just 2 classes. Thereby any tail number within a fleet type could be used on any route. All 777's the same...all 767-200's etc. Combining F/C and B/C has worked really well.......seems to be something customers are willing to pay for........and for loyal customers...a nice upgrade. Not good for non-revs though. Usually, if you can even get on a plane.......in the back....way back. Anyway......talk about thread drift!

Simply amazing they'd even have a first class seat open.

Well I actually ended up going through the first class check in by myself, as I had a bag to check. I thought it was very nice though of the UAL flight attendant to offer to expedite my boarding process.

I'm at CVG right now waiting for my delayed flight to Denver. I guess the DODO's in Elk Grove found some pilots to fly today.

I have always had good experiences with United crews. The flight attendants have always been pleasant to me and the pilots aren't as stuck up as some others are...

Those 777's seat 12 in first, 49 in business, and 197 in coach. And business is ALWAYS full. Always, always! Business travelers know to fly on the 777's. Usually there are 2 or 3 seats left in first. So you need to be at the very top of the stand-by list to get those. I have flown probably 100+ times on the 777, and I get first or coach. Only once have I ever gotten business. United caters to the important business travelers like Skygirl, and 777 domestic flights are perfect examples of that.

Yep, I always try to fly the triple seven if it's available. I wish I was flying it back to SFO today, but I have to make a connection in DEN. The 777 is a nice aircraft...
