at least those two were flying the airplane! The pair we are discussing might as well have been riding in first!

Will the insurance company allow them to come back, that's the question...

In both instances there were distractions, internal and external; in both events huge mistakes were made...one got more press. This has been discussed ad nausem....worthless thread.

Sure. If they are approved to operate the aircraft under our Operations Specifications, the insurer will not have a say and won't even know.

It isn't like underwriters do a background search on 12,000 pilots. If Delta is satisfied, the insurers are more than happy to sell the coverage (and receive commissions on administration of a policy agreement which sends out risk to numerous underwriters, risk sharing partners and reinsurers). A deal like Delta Air Lines makes probably a dozen or so insurance professionals entire careers. Delta will never hear a discouraging word from an insurance underwriter.

As a society we do not demand responsibility, just look at our politicians! That's just one example.

These guys f'ed up, REAL BAD, and I just don't have a lot of sympathy for their behavior. I think a year off is suitable, but I am surprised that this is not considered a terminable offense.
I think I can safely speak for the group when I say I'm glad you're not representing anyone here, given your apparent need to publicly flame your fellow pilots, not to mention your lack of respect for the disciplinary process.

The actual incident was nowhere near as dramatic as you are trying to make it out to be. I can think of many closer calls - possibly even one very dramatic one that happened just the day before - where the guys kept their jobs, despite having an epic screwup. Pilots are people - we make mistakes too.

I could list any number of things that I am sure you have done (at least one, once) that could be construed as willfully negligent under the scrutiny of 20/20 hindsight. I think the previous poster with the glass house reference was on the right track. You aren't going to bat a thousand for an entire career.

They did mess up, but who are you to complain about their sentence? Let them run through the process (like the NTSB, FAA, and of course the press should have done.)

What you're doing here is embarassing - for our pilot group and our profession. Just stop.

[QUOTE=tsquare;779161]You and superdad... just... wow

Bottom line is they FAIL to Do their JOBS and it could have cost them their lives I cannot imagine what could be so distracting as to not respond to ATC ACARS Moniter GUARD ect ect THEY FAILED PERIOD. UNLESS they were Asleep that I could give some forgiveness and would back them up. But to be distracted by your PC give me a break. What if ATC was telling them to Divert because of closing traffic that has Lost Comms you see how this would have got UGLY personally if I dont get a call from ATC about every 15-20 min I start to get Nervous but maybe thats just me.

Mod Note:

I'm closing my own thread. My intent was merely to report that the two of them have agreed to forfeit their licenses. What happened during negotiations or discussions with the FAA and NTSB is not wholly known yet. Therefore, most everything being posted here is nothing more than speculation.
