Default Pilot Age 60 Legislation

Subject: Update On Pilot Age 60 Legislation

Yesterday, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved its version of
the annual spending bill for the Department of Transportation. The
Committee included language in the bill that would increase the mandatory
retirement age for commercial pilots from age 60 to 65. The provision
was included with very little public discussion and no debate. This
legislation still needs to be passed by the full Senate. That is not
expected to occur until later in the fall, possibly after the elections in
November. Also, there is no similar provision in the House version of
the funding bill, so if this language survives the full Senate it will
still need to be reconciled with the House version later in the year
before it can become law. Opponents to changes in the mandatory
retirement change are sure to engage in a vigorous effort to defeat the Senate
provision.

Hey guys an gals, if your against this provision it's time to start enlisting everyone you can find to fight it. If you sit on your ass and do nothing, it could be law by Christmas.

It's nice how congress is willing to act to help big corporations, but when it comes time to securing a fair contract for controllers they **** down our throats.

Are you that clueless? If you haven't noticed ALL labor is taking it in the shorts - not just government employees. You still have a retirement plan right?

Yes, ALL labor is taking it in the shorts. Does that make it alright? NATCA put a great deal of time and pressure into our compaign to get a fair contract from the nazis at the FAA. Eventually we get a vote in the house, and are 18 or 20 votes shy of getting it passed. Go figure, the vote was right down party lines. Pro labor democrats trying to get the FAA to retun to the negotiations table, and anti-labor republicans wanting to keep costs low while we spend billions elsewhere in the world. Times have certainly changed.

Yes, I have a roth IRA, that my employer does not contribute to. . . the military's TSP is a joke (imho). Sad, BUT, one day I'd love to work for a company that would contribute to my retirement.

LAFF - No, I'm a military meteorologist, with a background in air traffic management (dispatch arena). I'm in Miami-Dade's CTI program, soon changing schools to seek a political science degree when I seperate from the military, amongst attending a Part 141 school in suburban Atlanta.

CargoBob - What do you think I'm talking about? You're a troll, so I won't bother falling for your jabs. But, if you do need some enlightening, feel free to visit www.fairfaa.com or www.natca.org. Knowing your deep conservative values, I wouldn't be surprised if you are an anti-union individual. If I'm mistaken, sorry.

I was not aware that controllers took a 40-50 % pay cut since 2001. Please enlighten me.

Who do you think pays for the controllers salaries?? A large chunk of it comes from the airlines...so do you think it is fair (not that fair matters to a socialist) that you guys not take a hit??

How is the wx up on cloud nine?

Being a liberal in the military (not that I consider much your "military" service), do you sit by yourself at lunch??

Hey Cargo Bob question?

How the heck can you even complain about a paycut, it is helping the big business men keep there salary, maybe even buy a new house in the hamptons. Remeber conservatives love to talk about trickle down economics and how wonderful it is. Were is that going for you right now. I think what surreal is trying to say is that he is for a fair contract for any employee out there which means being a little bit on the liberal side.
