Default CAL fires pilot

Airline Fires Pilot Removed From Flight
Continental Fires Pilot Who Was Removed From a Flight on Suspicion of Being Intoxicated

HOUSTON Jul 25, 2006 (AP)— A Continental Airlines captain removed from a flight because another employee smelled alcohol on his breath was fired Tuesday, the airline said.

The pilot, who was not identified, tested above the legal limit for alcohol for pilots, the company said. He was dismissed two days after being removed from the aircraft on suspicion of intoxication, said Sarah Anthony, a Continental spokeswoman.

The pilot was scheduled for Flight 706, from George Bush Intercontinental Airport to Tampa, Fla., on Sunday. It was his first flight of the day.

He rode on an airport bus to the terminal with another employee, who reported to the airline that he smelled alcohol on the pilot's breath. The pilot was removed from the aircraft before passengers boarded, Continental said in a statement.

Default Oh Well........

Better him than me!
HELL, everybody knows not to be drunk on the bus.

Thats why I have the police cruiser dump me off at the front door.
That way I can stumble to my gate and everybody thinks I am
just a klutz.

Red face

Not to make excuses for anyone, but considering the landslide the industry has been in for 5 years, this should not be too much of a surprise.

Some people incorrectly use the effects of alchohol to relieve themselves of the stresses of the job.

And we all know how much this profession has changed for the worse recently ...

Just my dos centavos ...

Later, CC

This is very sad for all. At my first airline, the company and union made it clear that the proper way to handle such a situation was through Pro Std's. I hope another crew member wasn't the whistle-blower. Someone should have informed the F/O, who should have known how to handle this. Not defending his(CA's) actions, but of my 3 airlines, the one where the pilots & f/a's actually liked and respected each other was the most enjoyable.
