This has been going on for decades, it just happens to be in the news more often now.

Uh yeah....not that sad. There's a real easy solution.....

Don't show up to work drunk!

It's really not that hard. If you do you deserve to be fired.

Can't really argue with the facts on this one. The test showed that he was over the legal limit. Im sure during indoc they tell every pilot that there is a ZERO tolerance policy for this type of thing. It's too bad he didn't have better judgement...a waste of a career. Everyone knows pilots like to drink; thats nothing new. But when you are resposible for hundreds of lives at a time, exceptions cannot be made.

I hope another crew member wasn't the whistle-blower. Someone should have informed the F/O, who should have known how to handle this. Not defending his(Ca's) actions, but of my 3 airlines, the one where the pilots & f/A's actually liked and respected each other was the most enjoyable.
Didn't mean to offend. Just been in the military 17 years and have 2 much "look out for your buddy" in me, maybe more than most of my present military peers. Flying under the influence with passengers in your charge is abhorrible. Whether left or right seat, I would have had strong words for my fellow pilot, reported the incident to Prof Stds, and would not have let the aircraft leave the gate with that pilot or allow the passengers to see the pilot. I speak as a now seasoned pilot and officer. I admit that that was not always the case. Just happen to enjoy looking out for my crew members. Couldn't sleep if I hadn't done all I could to help one of them.

Still romantic about being an Airline Pilot. Preferring the ALPA kool-aid not the Company's.

You are an idiot.

Scab or not it is a negative to the entire industry. You and I both, as well as, everyone else here that flys for a living.

And before you flame. No I am not a scab and wouldn't scab. I just don't go around seeing good in anything that makes us all look bad.

I agree. It blows my mind that after all you have to go through to land a pilot job you would screw it up by drinking. It's like people that cheat on their spouses. A night of fun to potentially ruin your entire life. Dumb dumb dumb.
