MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- United and Continental airlines are a big step closer to their proposed combination, with the Justice Department saying it has no more antitrust concerns about the deal.
On Friday, the two airlines said they would lease takeoff and landing slots in Newark to Southwest Airlines. The Justice Department says that clears up its main competitive concern.
Shareholders at the two airlines are set to vote on the deal on Sept. 17.

CAL deemed it to have little impact on their operation. That's why they readily gave them up. Much like the Jet Blue impact in EWR. The further they drift from their niche, the quicker they become an average airline.....at least on the profitability side. Welcome to the brier patch guys. Make sure to brush up on the Tarmac Delay Rules. LOL

I've heard that Air Kabul and Air Bangladesh are considering a code share agreement. The price? 3 gates and slots at Kabul Int'l to SWA.
How do those guys do it??

I just can't get over how SWA has locked up lobbying in DC. How do you get yourself to the point that anytime anyone wants to do anything in aviation (DAL/USAir swap, UAL/CAL merger), part of the price you must pay is to give away part of your flying to SWA.

I think that it is great. Delta is in the process of suing over the slot swap with USAirways. I think this helps the case greatly. Apparently you CAN choose with whom you divest--as long as it is with SWA. I think that a crank has been stepped on here, and it will be good for us.
I just got a building permit for my new garage. They charged me 800 bucks for the permit and said I had to lease the garage one day per week to SWA!
When will this madness end?!?
