My SWA buddie and I predicted this over beers in June. We speculated that SWA would get NY slots out of the CAL/UAL merger, because CAL was so big in EWR. I personnally thought SWA would end up with LGA slots (which they were trying to snag thru the DAL/LCC slot swap). I was wrong, but predicting SWA would end up with NY slots was a no brainer. You didn't think DOJ would approve UAL/CAL for nothin did ya?

I don't think that this is over. I'm betting that they're still working on more LGA slots and maybe JFK too. Took an hour to taxi out at LGA the other day with nothing but clear skies.

Carl, I'd like to use your garage next week. I'm throwing a "Welcome to New Jersey" party and I'm inviting Snookie.

You got that right! I think that they were launching maybe an airplane every 2 or 3 minutes. Schedules got the delay right because we did show up in MDW right on time. That place is OLD. It made the El Paso airport look nice.

The other day we were #25 for takeoff on 31 and as we got abeam the UsAir termial they stopped using 31 so we had to 180 in the line and dance over to 4. Good times.

Should be a good time - and cheap too. Just heard that all the caterers have to rent out their kitchens to SWA in order to get their licenses renewed.

My wife and I were considering renewing our marriage vows - but now I'm afraid of what gov't will require of me for that!

I've heard that Air Kabul and Air Bangladesh are considering a code share agreement. The price? 3 gates and slots at Kabul Int'l to SWA.

How do those guys do it??

Carl
They've convinced the flying public that they've got the cheapest fares and now they've convinced the government. That's how.

Wait until you have P, G, AA, BB, CC, DD, E, F, D, ... and they pack them all the way back to AA then across runway 4 to B back around to the gates. You'll be about 45 or so for takeoff. I have literally sat at the MAT with our engines off, waiting to see the UAL 757 turn the corner on B so that we could finally see who were were supposed to follow.

Good times

My personal record is #68 for departure in EWR. All I heard was Clearance Delivery say 'Jetlink 1844, you're #68 for departure, monitor....I say MONITOR ground.' Lol, I think that was a 4 hour taxi for a flight to ORF.

This seems to prove the swa model is broken. They need business markets and if the real airlines can provide better flight options then swa loses marketshare. No more obscure airports for swa. They need a legacy model to survive.

If it doesn't work out for them I don't think the wake will be crowded.

#96 at O'Hare, had departures backed up all the way around the terminal hub to A-14 and doubled back onto Bravo. I was amazed they could actually tell us our number.
