Retirement at age 70

BTW the reason you don't hear of military crashes is because it rarely involves the deaths of civilians. The military is about death and destruction in an effort to protect the rest of us. When a single seat fighter goes down it just doesn't make the news in the same way as a MAX.
But the question at hand of this thread is 70 year old pilots. Personally, as I approach those years, my opinion is we need to move over and let the next generation advance the throttles. To do otherwise is basically delusional and selfish (of course those two may go hand in hand).

Anything more than 65 and there better be real medicals by real doctors. Institute the Japanese medical and watch the dominoes fall at the top of the seniority list. Be careful for what you wish for. You may just raise the age and zap your career at an earlier age.
If ALPA learned anything from the last editon of raising the age they will not support an increase. Backing an age increase will hurt ALPA as the troops won’t sit quietly by the side again.

How else could a pilot retire on less than 50 percent of anticipated retirement benefits after the wage and benefits concessions made by the members?
Sure things are better, for the moment that is. Pay has gone up... profit sharing and 401(k) matches are up... why raise the age.

But I was talking about the US... politically there would have to be more screening at age 70, too many folks would make too much noise and the reaction (over-reaction?) would be strong. It's not just science, it's politics.

I said you could probably go to 67 without additional screening. I know Japan is 67. Are the others as well?

Well who endorsed ratification of retirement plan terminations? Who said “Better take a pay cut... or else.”

Is anyone in the government actually taking about changing the retirement age or just the people on airline pilot central? If I do a google search all I can find is a link to discussions here.
