Interesting but not the case at Delta. Maybe they got a exemption.

Please post a way to test cognitive decline that doesn't cost a minimum of 4 figures.
And then there's the logarithmic increase in incidence of epilepsy as one ages beyond the mid-60s.
So those pesky health issues are also arbitrary, but difficult to test for and when able to test, very expensive.

I’m curious to hear from some recently retired pilots and their opinion if they would have stuck around a couple more years if they could. I’m 50 now and still enjoy the job and would stay till 67 if my medical allows me. When you retired were you financially prepared? I look at the numbers and let’s say your making $250 K before you retire, then next month you start chipping away at your 401 K - it could be a big lifestyle hit. Anyone care to respond ?

If its just the job you love, there are plenty of ways to feed the flying bug that aren't Part 121. Lots of Part 91/135 gigs hurting for pilots right now. Who knows what it will be like for you in 15 years, but there are ways to stay involved in aviation.
Once you've experienced the other side of the fence, you may wonder what the attraction (except for the money, of course!) in the Part 121 commercial air terminal/bus station madness. Personally I hate going to the airport terminal. FBOs are much nicer places.

I’ve flown corporate and liked it also. Only problem I see is you’re on the hook a lot more and finding a job where you live is another issue. As a senior 121 guy you can drop to min hours and have 20 plus days off fairly easy.
I agree with you on lifestyle - but I think it would be a big adjustment, guess I’m more asking civilian vs military pension guys.

It all depends on your lifestyle. Do you spend all $250K a year? Will you have miltary/airline pensions? Full or half lump sum 401K? It all makes a difference.

Step back and observe how people respond to accidents. It's okay if an old guy wrecks an airplane. He will often be seen as a hero. When a young one does it, lack of age and experience is the first rattle out of the bucket. Of course this never applys to military pilots. They are beyond reproach for some reason.
