If only you could translate better....

No Carl, I am just saying if he wants an answer to a question about a union function, he should go to a primary source of that information.

The OP's question is doomed from the start (even if Sailing/Slow/PG tried to answer), in that it falls prey to three common research errors.

1. Population Specification (selecting an accurate audience to pose the question cannot be determined with any certainty)

2. Sampling (one cannot determine a correct sample group from said webboard)

3. Measurement (the researcher cannot verfiy the accuracy of any obtained data set procured in an anonymous webboard)

The NMB will be involved. From the Delta PWA, Section 28.A.:

In the absence of an agreement by March 31, 2013, the parties agree to jointly petition the National Mediation Board for mediation services.

That's great but...given what the NMB has been doing wrt Union Contracts lately, it could still hit the 'pause' button for a year or two.

NMB or no NMB? Best i can remember this is the process but the problem is I've been studying all sorts of decision trees and if ATL is to snow tomorrow trying to pull an 88 through the de-icing pads, well, it's just got my mind... cluttered. But I hope this helps.

I believe per our contract the NMB can be involved as early as 90 days after the amendable date. How long can they park us in mediation? Years? If we want significant gains we need leverage and if the NMB parks us we could have close to none for a very long time. Our MEC, or whoever is our agent, will be negotiating with the NMB nearly, if not more, than they are with the company soon after our amendable date.

That's my concern. I don't believe being parked for years needs to be a foregone conclusion and while I know that "hope" is not a strategy, I do hope that the MEC is working on a strategy to shorten the timeline between openers and a TA that gets us the most the soonest.

90 days after our contract's amendable date of 12-31-12. With openers exchanged in April of 2012, that's 12 months of negotiations before the NMB even enters the picture.

I think they are indeed working on a strategy, and sadly, I think the strategy is, "Don't ask for too much."
