All of us want to be expedited through, knowing full well that we might not be flying, but jumpseating or deadheading on a ticket. I betcha that the crew of that DC-10 wondered about how a fired pilot could get on their airplane with a spear gun and a hammer.

I know that there are many inconsistencies with the TSA, i.e. rampers going through unchecked, etc.. I'm as against the new scanners and the enhanced gropes as the next guy. However, let's not kid ourselves. Our case to DHS is full of holes, even though it appears that they're buying it. There has to be some level of screening for everyone, rampers, TSA goons, and yes, us.

I don't claim to have the answers, I'm just asking the unanswered question.

Nope.. fail.. sorry.

Ok, so I'll ask again... What's the big deal with going through a metal detector? I do it multiple times a week, and I don't have a problem with it. What do you need to bring on the airplane that the metal detector won't allow?

Flawed, "put a bandaid on a headache" type thinking. As for your unanswered question, it is easily answered with logical reasoning.

If your concern is that pilots needing more of a screening, that should come in the form of a more thorough background check. The type that FFDOs or LEOs go through, not with a metal detector. There are hundreds of "weapons" after the security checkpoint that a pilot could use if your intent is to hurt the other pilot in the cockpit.

This is a pointless, unbelievable thread. Let's hope to God the media doesn't pick it up.

My question to you is, why don't you have a problem going through a metal detector? I think the entire thing is insulting and nothing more than eyewash for Joe Public (who apparantely thinks it's a joke too).

I, for one, think pilots getting to bypass security is long overdue - can't wait until it's all just a bad memory.

No kidding!!! Glove wearing, knee board wearing (Yes...they wore them flying commercially), Air Force guys, are some of the biggest nut jobs flying commercially today. Yet the gov't manages to trust them with live ammunition.

Of course all this is said with the greatest respect (and some humor, if you can't laugh at yourself) for our Air Force. Good job men, thank you for your sacrifice and protecting our country.

What's wrong with going through a metal detector?

If the pilot is jumpseating he does not need a weapon the bring the flight down. There are so many ways to do that without even mentioning the crash ax. The pilot in question would have been removed from CASS and could not have boarded today.

Det and Zapata. In DEN, if your based here, you don't go thru security...just a fingerprint gets you thru a turnstile and directly to ops! Been that way for at least the 7 years I have been here. Works good, lasts a long time. Also, for the last 4 years I haven't been thru security anyway, anywhere...but yet I fly every month. Just sign and go. That is the best thing since sliced bread. Crewpass will work in a similar manner - just like currently in BWI. Its coming whether you like it or not. Next thread...
