An airplane doesn't "stop flying" because of lost signal. Although the difficulty of "jamming" a signal isn't an impossibility, there are more effective methods of "corrupting" Remotely Piloted Vehicles (RPV's). *Not to get into the methods here on a public forum.*

as far as the recovery on site team, I'm not sure about UAVs for the USAF but most all mainline aircraft can autoland and with a plethora of cameras taxing could be done with a lot more saftey. I think the 380 gives the guys underbelly camera feeds fwiw.

For every measure there is a countermeasure

That being said, I firmly believe that we'll see all military fighter/bomber aircraft going UAV at some point. Jets carrying human beings will always be controlled by another human being. IMHO.

Last (planned) manned fighter in the US has already been designed. I also think that plan will go the way of the fighter without a gun - probably disasterously.

Still, love to see young, hot Scandinavian chicks on layovers so lets not boo-hoo this concept prematurely.
Pics please.

Ok, so what about crosswind limitations for autoland?

For $1.4B in savings they'll figure a way. Just like a coupled single engine ILS, the 756 can do it but according to the DGS guys we didn't buy that option. I'm sure there is a way to get an extra 15 knots of correction, if not, 15 knots replaces 30.

Just exploring the thought. Makes the MCL seem like nothing though doesn't it?

That was actually my point... sure the airplane won't stop flying, but (i ASSume) it will continue to execute it's last command and won't be able to land without a signal being reestablished somehow.

I don't think we're gonna be yelling about being "scoped out" by video game nerds in a closed room someplace taking our jorbs anytime soon (doubtful before I reach retirement).

There are more pressing issues...

Not exactly. Not being able to speak freely about the "aircraft logic", I can say that "signal jamming" isn't the threat that it would seem it might be.

Only a "video game" until a person "pulls the trigger" in a combat scenario, watching what the 105# "bottle rocket" on their left/right wing does to it's target.

I agree 110% about not being "scoped" by Remotely Piloted Vehicles before either one of us see retirement.
