How long do these things usually take for approval? I haven't heard much grumblings about the next AE in awhile, and it is the end of May, when it is supposedly coming out. I guess they are maybe waiting for approval of this to put the AE out? Or would this take much longer?

Default Politics Everywhere

The fact that this hasn't happened has been pure politics. Southwest got their hands in the mix last summer and spoiled this deal on account of WestJet gate and slot losses. The "Lobby" rules and the fact the DOT approved the deal but got their hands in issuing the breakdown is a joke. It's taken some time to get this reorganized but this will be approved. Southwest now operates out of Newark and will put the pressure on the domestic New York market accordingly. This deal is good for both companies, but puts many more questions into play involving the future of USAir and how they could be a potential piece of a JetBlue American jigsaw puzzle assembly project.

SWA will still ask for a bidding process on the slots that are being given up.

You really think that I'm kidding?

The chances that SWA doesn't object to this are about the same as the VOLS having a winning season (in football not women's basketball.)

I'm sure they will! A company with lots of cash, its organic growth stagnated, and a maxed out business model will start to look for other options and to put its cash to work. LGA is likely to be profitable for WN, it has been for AT already, its why pretty much everyone who has slots wants to keep those slots or only sell at a large premium.
