Default The pool at SWA

You're welcome Scout. I'm glad that was useful info.

FYI I just flew a trip with a guy on the interview board. He said the pool is shrinking FAST. There's 3 classes of 24 going through this month alone. I guess we're interviewing like gang-busters because of it. I bet you're out of the pool and toweling off soon.

See you on line!

Sr. Barco,

How would you rate the domiciles for SWA in order of seniority? From what I've gathered, DAL is the most senior while OAK was the junior base. What about the rest?

Thanks in advance,

Dave

So, if I understand this correctly, it looks like an FO hired in Jul 06 is able to bid and hold a line (or reserve) at Dallas by today's date? (More importantly to my family and me, if I get hired and start training in Jan - Feb '07 timeframe, I may be able to hold Dallas as an FO in about 5 months?)

Any other info about commuting, interviewing, etc would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to PM me if you don't want to clutter up this thread; I have an interview with SWA next month and I'm after any 'gouge' I can get.

Thanks again,

Dave

Default Swa

That sounds like a great schedule. I can't wait until I'm qualified for Southwest.

It is definitely interesting to see the actual legs that are being flown on a trip, where the overnights are, etc.. There are probably a ton of different combos, I would imagine. Gives a good feeling for what the day to day life might be like. Summary info like what Sr Barco posted is great, too.

Appreciate all of the good info. My connectivity was down for a couple of days and I was pleasantly surprised to see all of the new activity on this thread.

Default FedEx Schedules

Baghdaddy,
Thanks for your service in the Sand Container and wish you a safe return home soon.

As far as FedEx gouge, here goes:

- Hiring 450 next year, and at least 300 per year until the end of time (ok, maybe just 10 years)

- You should know three guys who fly with us, and one has to walk in your stuff

- Expect to get 727 S/O or F/O out of class, with possible MD-11 F/O opportunities if you have glass time.

- Upgrade to Wide Body F/O in 12-18 months. Earlies upgrade to narrow body Capt is 4.5 to 5 years (that's junior on reserve)

- Schedules: Depends on Domestic verse Intl, and seniority drives everything. Let's assume you want to be senior (which you should), that would be in the top 50% of your seat

-- Domestic - as a commuter you can bid week on/Week off with DH (dead heads) on the front and the back. If you can hold a city near you home, this gives you 4 paid days at home. So senior dude, flying domestic, works about 12 days a month (4 week month) and 15 days (5 week month). With DH's near home you can shave 4 days off your month.

-- International - A senior dude can bid a long 12 day trip and be done for the month. This could be around the planet, but you are done in 12 days and off the rest of the month.

-- Junior dudes live in Memphis and bid reserve. That's not a bad life either. But you gotta live in Memphis or have a pad there. 15 days on a 4 week, and 19 days on a 5 week.

Lot's a varations to all this, based on how you want to bid. I.E. bid for specific days off, or bid for max days off.

Hope that helps. Good luck and Check Six!

Jolly

If you are even considering FedEx put in you app via the internet. You can update it as necessary, so if FedEx quits accepting resumes your in. There has been talk of that since they have so many on file.
Thanks for your service,
