It looks like CAL IS hiring:

United Pilots: Recall of Up to 200 Pilots ‘Welcome’ News

Chicago, Ill., July 14, 2011--The United pilots today welcomed the company’s announcement of the return of 100 to 200 furloughed pilots. It is the hope of the United Chapter of the Air Line Pilots Association that these recalls are the first of a wave of recalls that will eventually lead to the return of all our 1,437 furloughed pilots.

“When a furloughed United pilot returns to our cockpits, whether United or subsidiary Continental, it is welcome news,” said United MEC Chairman Captain Wendy Morse. “No pilots have paid a higher price for the recent shocks to the aviation industry than the 1,437 United pilots who have been on furlough.

Training could begin as early as late September. While these pilots will be hired to staff Continental aircraft, they will retain seniority rights in position on the United pilot seniority list. The seniority lists of both carriers will only be merged after the completion of a Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement allowing United to recognize the benefits of finally completing the merger.

“We still have work to do to get the remaining United pilots off the street,” added Capt. Morse. “We remain focused on securing a Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement with United and getting all of our pilots back to work. We look forward to that day and will not rest until they return.”

Gents/gals-

Lets be clear as the title of this thread is misleading, NO UAL FURLOUGHEES ARE BEING RECALLED! CAL is hiring and giving preferential spots to UAL furloughees. This is just one notch above all the grand announcements of jet jobs at Skywest/Republic and is a SAD attempt by our MEC to claim credit for something they have botched so badly already.

Meanwhile, enjoy getting used to being at the bottom behind folks hired 10 years after you, as what impression do you think this will give the panel of arbitrators when SLI comes.

Dear UAL MEC, when you actually do manage to get our actual job backs, without being stapled to the bottom, then we will celebrate. Until then, better get some better lawyers because you already botched it once with TWA!

Per the T&PA, a furloughed UAL pilot's position on the CAL seniority list will have nothing to do with SLI as the UAL pilots will retain all seniority rights at UAL for the arbitrator to consider.

I'm just going to leave it at that before I type something I might later regret.

c'mon KC. This is good news. While I agree that this COULD have sli implications, any UA furloughee that accepts a position at CAL does retain his seniority on the UAL list. We have guys flying at express carriers for far less money than this gig. The pay rate will be yos at UAL, and that can't revert to 1st year pay unless the entire T/A is terminated (with ALPA concurrence). No, this is good news....for a change.

I disagree, though I'm not on furlough. As I read it furloughees will be compemsated at CAL rates with credit for Longevity at UAL. Better deal than coming back to UAL as I see it as the CAL rates are higher. What would you prefer, CAL to hire off the street?? I'm not sure the SLI issues would be any better if that were the scenario.

This is great news as far as I'm concerned. If it's not interesting to you, the option to bypass I'm sure is on the table.

Well held. I haven't taken a poll, but I'm thinking the vast majority of the guys over here at UAL recognize this as good news

"Such Pilot will be paid the greater of (1) the actual hourly pay rate he
was receiving on the date of his furlough, or (2) the hourly pay rate to which his years of service at the employing Airline otherwise entitles."

yos at the employing airline entitles the pilot to first year pay at CAL. Don't get me wrong, I believe it is a good deal for furloughed pilots, but their rate will be their UAL rate at furlough and a reduced b-fund contribution as well.

You may want to read the Transition Agreement as YOU ARE COMPLETELY WRONG

The facts are out there. You just have to have the ability to read the information. Of course getting on a web board and spewing mis-information is much easier I suppose.....
