MSP LEC Election and our contract...

I found this campaign letter in a plane in MSP. This guy seems to have no problem putting ALPA on Notice...:)

I did delete his name to protect the innocent.....

FOR MSP Council 1 First Officer Representative

Fellow Council 1 Pilots,

Our council's voting process is now underway the time is now for you to make some choices regarding your future.

The voting process will run through: November 10th closing at 10:00 EST.

Judging from Our Council's record low voter precipitation, my discussions with many of you, and the fact that over half of the MSP based pilots have submitted cards seeking a vote for the alternate representation group DPA www.delta-pilots.org.

It is obvious thatdissatisfaction with ALPA run high.

The fact is, trust in ALPA over the last 10 years has gone down. Some have said, ALPA has become powerless and ineffective, that our leadership is dysfunctional and they fail to produce results.

I can't say I agree with those sentiment's but the truth is, ALPA at all levelsneeds to change the way they conduct their business and adopt some of the reforms and changes requested by their own membership.

Make NO Mistake, ALPA needs to step up to the plate and start performing or face being replaced on this property.

Why Am I Running for ALPA office:

Like many of you, I am very dissatisfied with the current state of our profession, and like you, I am ready for it to improve. The concessions we gave were Way too deep, Way too easy, and Way too long.

We need leaders in office that bring a fresh new prospective new ideals and have a purposeful direction. Our next LEC officer's must be willing to make changes to the way ALPA does business. This Election provides you that opportunity to make changes if you are not happy with the status quo as it is.

I want to bring to office a fresh new prospective, new ideals and the desire to make the needed changes. I will proactively engage Management to repair Scope and Compensation and will bring forward your suggestions and represent your interests at the MEC.

"Delta Pilots Deserve and Should Expect Result's For OUR Dues Investment"

Communication:

The Delta MEC likes to "Control the Message". They are not supportive of LEC officers communicating with their membership in a direct and uncensored fashion. But the fact is, You deserve to know, truthfully, what your union is doing on your behalf. This should be timely enough for you to submit input or to take action. Communication after the fact or with political manipulation will lead to distrust. MSP has in the past had a long history of providing timely updates I will continue that tradition. LEC Rep's have a basic duty to report back to the membership the on-going's of the MEC.

Contract 2012:

Like many of you, I want improvements in our contract sooner rather then later. We have been operating under our concessionary agreement for far too long and our investment has contributed greatly to Delta's success. Normal section 6 negotiations drag on for years. I propose that limiting our negotiations to covering the top 5 sections will help obtain the fastest route to the badly needed changes to key areas. If elected I will push for these limited negotiations with the goal of having these changes in place as quickly as possible.

Some of the Key areas that need attention.

Pay:
The results of the Contract survey will clearly set the direction here. However, My personal view is that there is no argument that will ever convince to me that a South West Airlines Pilot flying between Dallas and Houston should be paid more then a Delta Air lines Pilot flying between NYC and Brussels. It is by the sacrifices, professionalism and investment of this Pilot group that Our airline is as successful as it is today and we deserve to be compensated accordingly.

Scope:
All of OUR careers have been negatively effected by the direct transfer of Delta's mainline routes to the ever enlarging RJ's, Joint Venture projects, Code Share's, Cargo agreements etc. etc. Our current MEC administration has been supporting these transfers by defending these ever expanding Codeshares agreements and failing to actively grieve Scope violations. We have all noticed the lost of routes and decrease in flying due to the Alaska Domestic Codeshare including a large portion of Delta's west coast Hawaiian flying. If Alaska Airlines is needed to feed our flying then maybe Delta should look into a merger... but the continuation of the transfer of OUR routesand loss of flying is unacceptable.

We can all remember "Road Show Quotes" of the past...

"These RJ's are needed to create new routes for the mainline"
"Northwest Airline Pilots have already bought and paid for the rights to fly 50 seat jet's"
"The Alaska Code Share is needed to feed the west coast routes"
"The DC-9 will never be parked they need the lift".....

Enough Is Enough....

Make No mistake I will be Loud and Clear on SCOPE Issues..

What I propose for Scope reform for Contract 2012:

1. Beginning at DOS and over time, phased in, the requirement that seniority list Delta Airline Pilots be in command of all 55 seat and greater aircraft.

2. Setting stricter limit's on the Alaska Code Share limiting it to only Alaska city destinations only.

3. Charters can only be flown by mainline pilots and crew and aircraft.

4. Increased Limits on Hub to Hub flying and International destinations.

5.The setting of a 1500 Hour standard for all DCI crew members.
6. Place greater limits on International code share agreements.

Retirement:
Many of us now have reduced benefits and there are those who will never achieve a livable retirement income under our current plan. This is unacceptable. We must work towards increased accruals for all pilots and improve our retirement package at every available opportunity.

We should not find it acceptable that a retired Delta Airlines pilot would have to spend upwards of $1800.00 a month to maintain their health insurance. We need to bring our retiree's back into the pool of all Delta pilots for determining medical premiums and get this cost down to a reasonable level.

Training:
I'm am in favor of bringing back seniority list instructors. As professional Pilots we should insist on having consistent, standardized and relevant training. We also need to improve job protections for any and all training failure events. No Delta Pilot's job should ever be in jeopardy when going throughtraining at Delta Air lines.

Work Rules:
There is alot of work to be done here. But, some of the biggest items that need attention are 23K recovery, Our industry low 70 hour reserve guarantee, vacation value, and a 5 hour min work day.

Sick policy:
No Delta Air Lines Pilot should ever have to face intimidation and ridicule from Delta management for exercising his or her professional duty of removing themselves from service, whenever they feel Sick, Fatigued or not fully mentally capable of performing their duties. Nor should the Delta MEC except this as being an acceptable practice.

I can promise if elected:

üI will fight for these issues as if my career depended on it

üI do so out of personal conviction

üI will never use my office to further a personal or career agenda.

üI have been outspoken, proactive, and out front of issues for a long time, and I will continue to do so in the future.

This LEC election provides our pilots with a great choice of candidates. There are those candidates with a history and experience in politics. There are also those who are fresh on the scene with a clean slate, an open mind and fresh perspective. If you are happy with the direction that we are going and the representation that you have, you can vote one way. If you want a fresh perspective, you can certainly vote in a different way.

They say that whenever you go to a job interview, be sure at some point you actually ask for the job. With that in mind, I would like the opportunity to serve as your First Officer Representative. But whichever way you are leaning, please, take the time and vote the balloting run through November 10th at 10:00 EST.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, please send me an email at:

This is quite obvious isn't it. Now here's the BIG question: Why does ALPA keep telling us how good the JV's are for Delta pilots?
