The way people responded about the -800 being quieter gives me the impression that this is not available on other models. Any truth to that? Wouldn't make much sense to me not to make it standard on all 737s if it isn't already.

Honest outsider question...was up front on a -500 going home yesterday (thanks for the ride CAL guys). Both guys had single-sided headsets and talked normally to one another. Didn't seem particularly loud to me. We did most of the flight at .72, never more than 300KIAS in the descent. Does it get massively louder in the high .70s/above 300?

Was the first time I'd been stuck up front on a 73 in months so I can't remember how the -700/-900 was.

any right seat guys using the uflymike setup. does the mike rotate so that the right ear is active and the left ear is uncovered for cockpit communication?

now that it is tso'd delta should be good with it...i am assuming. sure would be nice to kill two birds with one stone and use the qc15 for deadhead/commuting.

I commute on Horizon a bunch, and the right seaters all seem to be using that setup with the boom on the left. Makes me think that what you're asking isn't possible.

That said, I must be going deaf. Bose headsets in something like a 737? That would drive me nuts. Even the Telex's are more that I want on my head. A small earpiece with a boom on it - perfect. And even that comes off above FL180.

Yes, the uflymike works both sides. Best setup (comfort and use) I've flown with in over 25 years fo flying: QC2 and U fly mike. Makes the Telex and Sennheiser look like pieces of garbage.

That's one hell of a recommendation. And you wear the headset the whole time without being bothered by it? Maybe I'll look into it further...

I have a Telex 850 that works just fine in the Delta -800's EXCEPT for at least 4 ships. #3724, 3737 and 2 others that I can't remember off the top of my head give a massive squeal/feedback everytime I key the mic with the headset/boom mic. I work around it for the infrequent times I'm on one of these airplanes by wearing the earphones (which knock the noise down considerably with the ANR on) and using the hand mic to transmit. A bit inconvenient but it works one or two legs a month when I get a bad ship.

You definitely want something though. The noise is WAY worse than any other airplane I've flown.

Bonus with the 850: no batteries required!

Don't know about the Sennheiser's being garbage. I wore the HMEC-25's for two years on the 737 and liked the way they performed. Got to compare them side by side with FO's that had the UFlyMike setup. Comfort wise, the UFM is more comfortable because it sets over your ears, versus on top of them like the Sennheiser's. When the noise cancelling circuitry is turned on the Sennheiser's were actually a little quieter, but not by much.

One thing to watch for is that the UFM headset is TSO'd, but the headset they mount on is not. They are marketing it on the premise that the headset is only an accessory that the actual headset is mounted to so that does not need to be TSO'd. The issue is that if the batteries go dead, you lose all capability to hear anything. What you do is wear the earpiece supplied by UFM as a backup and then they are fine.

They have a little smaller footprint than the Sennheiser's do and you can use them in back as well. You may have some issues with the UFM piece sliding out of the headset, as my neighbor uses them and has a rubber band to hold them in securely, but otherwise no issues. Some companies have an official position against using the UFM setup, so your mileage may vary.

Not a bad setup, but to say the Sennheiser's are garbage is a little harsh, just my experience.
